REVIEWS OF WWE UK SHOWS IN 2004 THAT THE ROCK WRESTLING CREW WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GO TO

RAW TOUR OF DEFIANCE
BIRMINGHAM NEC, BIRMINGHAM

There really is nothing like watching the WWE live and the Raw Superstars “rocked” the very foundations of Birmingham NEC. The Arena was full to capacity and the crowd were hot all night long baby and pumped up and the Raw Superstars didn’t fail to deliver in an awesome show from top to bottom. I loved every minute of this amazing show and can’t wait to see them again.

The show kicked off with Howard Finkel who then introduced Stephanie McMahon to start off proceedings. Stephanie got a great reaction from the fans, it was a nice surprise and she is a great spokesperson for the McMahon family. The pyros then exploded (boy were they loud, I am sure the ground shook!!!!!) and things got underway.

EDGE vs BATISTA

A great wait to kick off the show, Edge was very over with the UK fans while Batista generated a lot of heat. Batista is amazing to watch live, he really is a monster and very impressive in the ring. This was a very enjoyable match to watch, some stalling at times with sleeper holds but still action packed and really got the crowd going (not that we needed much encouragement!). Edge picked up the win over the monster in the end much to the delight of the fans.

TRISH STRATUS & TYSON TOMKO vs LITA & RHYNO

I have to admit that when Trish and Tyson Tomko came out and this was announced as a Tag Team match I actually prayed that Jericho wasn’t going to be involved and fortunately my prayers were answered. (I’m sorry, but I really have had enough of watching this Y2J and Trish Storyline and just didn’t want to see them together again and in particular in this show, I wanted to see something different and that‘s just what we got - thank you WWE). Trish did a great job of generating heat from the fans with her pretty over the top British accent but she was very entertaining on the mic. Lita got a rousing reception from the fans and at first it looked like Kane was going to be her partner, then Matt Hardy who got taken down by Kane who then left leaving Lita alone to face Trish and Tomko who took advantage of the opportunity straight away. Trish and Lita started off and they are very entertaining in the ring but in all honesty, I really didn’t pay much attention to Tomko. He just doesn’t have the same in ring presence as Batista - maybe in time but I just fear he is being pushed before he is ready and may end up causing someone an injury because he is green in the ring right now. Rhyno then ran to the ring to even up the odds. Entertaining match thanks mainly to Lita and Trish who kept the action flowing.

WOMEN’S CHAMPIOSHIP

VICTORIA vs MOLLY HOLLY

Victoria is very over with the fans in the UK (particularly the male demographic!!) and Molly did a great job generating heat throughout this Championship match. Nice match for the title seeing Victoria retaining her belt after Molly lost her hair (again).

Next up was a segment with Stacey Keibler (I am sure the male fans loved this but personally I think she is better suited to Smackdown as the women on Raw wrestle!). This brought out Eric Bishoff with his sidekick Johnny Nitro followed shortly afterwards by Eugene and William Regal. Boy, is Eugene ever over with the fans - we all loved him and William Regal got a great hometown reception. Eugene just ran around hugging everyone before Eric laid into Regal for not keeping a tighter hold on his nephew. Regal then blew his top and, much to the delight of the fans, really yelled at Bishoff. Eugene picked up Nitro and then Bishoff and spun them around in an airplane spin. This sort of angered Bishoff (can’t understand why!!!) and he put his nephew in a tag match against Garrison Cade and Johnny Nitro. Eugene could have any partner from the locker room except Regal ………. Cue …….. Jericho!!!!!. I love the way that Eugene imitates his “heroes”, it’s a really endearing quality of the character showing that he has a lot of respect for them and that he really loves wrestling.

Wow, what a reception for Y2J, us Jerichoholic’s were out in force in Birmingham!. This was actually the first time that I have seen Jericho wrestle live and believe me it was well worth the wait.

EUGENE & CHRIS JERICHO vs JOHNNY NITRO & GARRISON CADE

The match started with a game of “paper, rock, scissors” between Jericho and Eugene to see who started off - Eugene won (well, he does like playing “games” after all) and then it was sheer entertainment from then on. Watching Jericho wrestle live is just amazing, he has such great in ring presence, he is so quick and lively and just seems to know how to entertain the masses. He certainly seemed to be enjoying himself out there with Eugene and William Regal. Eugene is fun to watch in the ring and there were a lot of “Eugene” and “Y2J” chants throughout this match as the crowd were so into it. The ending came with a double take down form the top rope by both Jericho and Eugene and finishing with Nitro and Cade both locked in the Walls of Jericho. No question, this certainly was my “Highlight of the Night”.

After the match, Johnny Nitro called William Regal back to the ring and after a sneak attack by Nitro which was quickly turned around, William Regal just stood in the middle of the ring while the fans chanted his name.

RIC FLAIR vs SHAWN MICHAELS

Shawn Michaels received a huge pop as he made his way the ring and the fans showed their respect for Ric Flair. This was a very entertaining match up and great fun to watch. Shawn Michaels, unfortunately, decided to treat us fans to a close up view of Ric Flair’s naked backside towards the end of the match - thank you so much Shawn!!!!!!!! - not!. This was the first time that I have actually seen Shawn Michaels wrestle live also and it was awesome. Another enjoyable match to watch.

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP

RANDY ORTON (Champion) vs SHELTON BENJAMIN

The fans were very split in this match, Randy Orton was very over with the fans as was Shelton Benjamin. Randy came out to a huge pop and he is very impressive to watch live. The match got underway and pretty quickly Shelton Benjamin picked up the win much to the amazement, joy and slight confusion of the fans but Eric Bishoff quickly put a dampener on proceedings by changing the match to two out of three falls. Randy Orton quickly got the second fall and then the match really got underway. This match was awesome and was a great taster for their up coming battle at Bad Blood. The action was back and forth and both Superstars were very evenly matched throughout. Randy Orton won the day (this time) which wasn’t a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination but I don’t think that it will be long before Shelton Benjamin has his!.

HURRICANE & ROSEY vs LA RESISTANCE

Awh, Rosey has finally finished his training and has a new “Superheroes” outfit. La Resistance certainly generate a lot of heat as the UK fans were all over them throughout this match. This was entertaining to watch and afterwards Hurricane and Rosey brought two fans in from the crowd who were dressed like them and all four climbed the turnbuckles to salute the crowd - great fun.

WORLD HEAVYWEGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

CHRIS BENOIT (Champion) vs TRIPLE H

Triple H came out to a huge pop as did Chris Benoit and this was a really nice surprise match for us fans in Birmingham. Triple H was just so funny at the start and spent 10 minutes or so just having a go at the fans (who continually chanted “you tapped out”) in particular one guy and an 8 year old kid!. He even tore up a sign in the crowd that said “you tapped out”. He then got on the mic and told us he would take us all on before Benoit joined in. The match did eventually get underway and it was extremely entertaining. Evolution tried to help out towards the end but Chris Benoit once again made Triple H “tap out”. A great match to end an awesome show.

The Raw Superstars gave their all and then some and gave the fans in Birmingham a night to remember that’s for sure. Thank you guys!.

Thank You to the Raw Superstars and to the WWE for making the UK one of their regular tour destinations each year and long may it continue.

RAW LIVE & LOADED
WEMBLEY ARENA, LONDON
FRIDAY, 8 OCTOBER 2004

There really is nothing like seeing the WWE live and the fans here in the UK go crazy every time the Superstars touch down here. Raw, live and loaded in Wembley pretty much sold out as soon as the tickets went on sale and we, the fans, were hyper all night long. You could see the Superstars were pumped up and ready for action and fed off of the fans energy (and there was plenty to go around believe me). All of the Superstars looked to be having a great time and went above and beyond in the name of entertainment, as always. It must have put them on such a high to perform in front of packed houses for a week of shows and in front of such excitable fans. We just love everything they do and are so into the matches and segments (my sore throat being proof of that right now!!!!!).

I want to personally thank each and every one of the Raw Superstars who were amazing all night long, they put on one hell of a show and, as always, we really appreciate them coming here and are so glad that they continue to use the UK as one of their regular touring venues. Long may that continue!. Awesome job guys and come back soon!.

It made a nice change to have Lillian Garcia announcing throughout, she is really nice and took time out to shake hands with the fans during the interval and after the show. The show itself was simply “off the charts”.

RHYNO & TAJIRI vs. HURRICANE & ROSEY

Great match to kick off proceedings, I have to admit that I never thought I would see Rosey perform a moonsault from the middle rope but he did and he did it smoothly too. All four Superstars put on a really entertaining match and work so well together. After the match was over they all shook hands which was great to see.

VAL VENIS vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN

Val Venis played the heel so well in this match, there was a fair amount of stalling before the match got started by him which really got the fans on his back and into the match. Shelton Benjamin is amazing to watch live and I really enjoyed this match. Great job by both athletes.

MOLLY HOLLY & CHUCK PALUMBO vs. NIDIA & MAVEN

I couldn’t get over how small Molly Holly is in real life but she is very effective in the ring. In all honesty I think its time for a change of face for Maven, maybe a run as a heel will rejuvenate his character, I do like Maven but the character has become very much the same ole same ole now. Good match though all the same.

KANE vs. GENE SNITSKY

Gene Snitsky is huge in real life, in fact I think that he is actually bigger than Kane. Very hard hitting match as expected seeing Kane getting himself disqualified. Pretty short match but very much to the point. I am always very impressed by Kane and this match was no exception.

WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

WILLIAM REGAL & EUGENE vs. LA RESISTANCE (Champions)

SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE - THE COACH

I loved this match, it was just sheer entertainment from start to finish and William Regal was very much the hometown hero and got a huge reaction throughout. I knew that Sylvan Grenier was a bad singer but hearing him live really does hurt your ears!!!. Coach came out at the start announcing that there would be a special guest referee for the match and while all four competitors looked to the top of the ramp Coach took off his top to reveal a referees shirt. Eugene found a St George’s Flag and ran around the ring with it before the start of the match and then gave it to Regal who held it above his head much to the delight of the fans. The match itself was just so entertaining, Regal was really pumped up and he and Eugene gave the Tag Team Champions a run for their money. Of course, La Resistance retained the belts but we were compensated with Coach getting a “Eugene Stunner” afterwards. There was a little lad in the Arena dressed just like Eugene, he looked so cute and Eugene brought him into the ring and played “aeroplanes” with him for a while which we all loved.

INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH

CHRIS JERICHO (Champion) vs. CHRISTIAN Vs EDGE

This was my favourite match of the night by far (and not just because I am a huge Jerichoholic!). The fans were really into this, Edge got a pretty mixed reaction when he came out and throughout the match, Christian was definitely the heel and Jericho was by far the hero in this one. Jericho was loving it when he came out and really lapped up all of the Y2J chants that filled the Arena (that’s why my throat is so sore!!!!). He looked so proud posing with the IC title belt on the turnbuckle and I really hope he retains it for a while as he is such a great Champion. He was reluctant to give the belt up to Mike Chioda too at the start which was funny. The start of the match had Christian mouthing off on the mic, entertaining as always and running down David Beckham. I love watching Christian, he plays the heel so well, he knows how to get the fans going and always works so well with Jericho. He then turned straight into Jericho and Edge who double teamed him for a while before the match got underway which was really funny. It was just sheer entertainment from start to finish. Tyson Tomko got evicted part way through for tripping up both Edge and Y2J and left to a chorus of “nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye”. The end saw Christian bring in the IC belt only to get catapulted, courtesy of Y2J, into Edge who was on the ring apron. Jericho then rolled CLB up in the walls of Jericho and he tapped out almost straight away. Jericho won and the fans went crazy - yeah baby!. Christian was helped out and Edge left leaving Y2J in the ring. He played to the fans for a while getting huge cheers going up on all four sides and then went around ringside shaking hands with all the fans. He even took a photo of someone with their camera. Kudos to Y2J for taking the time with the fans, we love it and very much appreciate it. No matter how many times I see Jericho live he just gets better and better and I love seeing him as a face right now. He always so entertaining.

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

TRISH STRATUS (Champion) vs. VICTORIA

As always, great match by these two. Trish really has this heel thing down pat now and her and Victoria always work so well together. They were both very impressive in this Women‘s title match.

CHRIS BENOIT, SHAWN MICHAELS & RANDY ORTON vs. TRIPLE H, BATISTA & RIC FLAIR

A really great way to end things with this huge main event. All six got great reactions from the fans but the loudest by far was for Triple H on his entrance. All six athletes were pumped up and there were some great spots in this match. It was a very entertaining tag match. I always loving watching Shawn Michaels live in particular, he always seems to be on such a high and plays to the fans all the time. He certainly lives up to his name “The Showstopper”. Ric Flair has always been a fan favourite here in the UK and always gets a great reaction as does Benoit who is amazing to watch live. Triple H, as I said, got a huge pop as did Randy Orton, the only one that really didn’t get much reaction was Batista, he seems lost in the Evolution mix now. The faces won the day on this one and the fans loved it. Benoit, Michaels and Orton all hung around for a while playing to the fans and then going around ringside shaking hands. Randy Orton even signed some autographs for those lucky enough to be right up front. Like Jericho, kudos to all three for taking the time, its very much appreciated and we love it.

All in all a fantastic night and I came away with some more great memories, as always. I cannot wait to see them again as there really is nothing like the WWE live, its an experience like no other that’s for sure and I always come away on such a high - thank you once again guys.
