If you have any questions, comments, or complaints about this page, or about accessibility, standards compliance, or web-authoring in general, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Standards Complience
These pages are written in XHTML 1.1, and served as application/xhtml+xml to all browsers that say they support it (browsers that don't support it are sent an HTML 4.01 Strict version that is not guarenteed to validate). Styling is done using CSS 2. You can check the validity of any page on this site by clicking the approprite link in the footer.
AccessKeys
Most browsers support navigation using keyboard shortcuts called AccessKeys that are defined by the website you're visiting. In Windows, you can press Alt & an AccessKey; on a Macintosh, you can press Ctrl & an AccessKey. Please note that in Internet Explorer for Windows, if the AccessKey refers to another page, pressing Alt & an AccessKey will only shift focus to the link. You must then press Enter to follow the link. In Windows, Alt & some key is also used for menu shortcuts. If one of my AccessKeys is usurping a menu shortcut of yours, you can always access the menu shortcut by typing Alt then the key.
The following AccessKeys are defined:
- 0
- Accessibility Statement (this page)
- 1
- Main Page (Home)
- 2
- Skip to Navigation (this key is really only for those who are viewing this site without css).
Navigation & Scripting
All relevant pages (such as those pages that cover the Dizzy games) have rel=previous, next, and home links to aid navigation in text-only browsers and ScreenReaders. Mozilla users can also take advantage of this feature by enabling the Site Navigation Bar in the View→Show/Hide→Site Navigation Bar menu. Opera has similar functionality.
While Javascript is occasionally used to supplement PxD's functionality, this site is 100% accessable without javascript. There are no
pseudo-links.javascript:
No links open in new windows, not even external links. If you want to open a link in a new window you will have to instruct your UA (Browser) to do so manually. In IE and Firefox, this can be done by right-clicking on a link and selecting Open in New Window or by selecting the link and pressing Shift & Enter.
Properly nested headers are used throughout. JAWS users can move to different sections of the page using Alt & Insert & 2 and Alt & Insert & 3.
Abbreviations & Acronyms
Abbreviations and acronyms are marked up as an aid to ScreenReaders and other assistive technologies. The definitions are given using the title attribute at every occurence on the page.
Stylesheets & Appearance
The appearance of these pages is controlled by CSS stylesheets. Users, whose browsers support it, can substitute/supplement these by their own stylesheets, to alter the appearance to their liking. PxD should also be functional in User Agents that do not support CSS stylesheets or where users have disabled them.
All font sizes specified in my stylesheets are relative. You can change the font size in IE by selecting View→Text Size and selecting a size. In Firefox, you can use a similar menu or the shortcut keys Ctrl & + and Ctrl & -.
Some of the advanced technologies used in these pages are only supported in advanced browsers, like some of those listed below. Nonetheless, these pages should be perfectly usable with CSS disabled and in more primitive
User-Agents, like text-only browsers, ScreenReaders and Internet Explorer.
