Background Story

Dizzy & Daisy strolled through the enchanted forest without a care in the world... But suddenly the Evil King's trolls seized poor Daisy! She was send to Wizard Weird's Tallest Tower, while Dizzy was dragged away and thrown into the deepest, darkest, dankest of the Kings Dungeons in the bowels of Fantasy World. Dizzy was frightened! Who knew what fate awaited him... and he still hadn't done this week's homework! But then he remembered that he had a fresh green apple that he had planned to give his teacher to escape detention, and he cheered up. And there was some bread and water on the table! A cunning plan began to brew in his mind... But Dizzy can't do everything on his own... you must help him!

A nice little Easter Egg

Its a shame that dozy won't help you complete the game. Why not give him a hefty kick?

It turns out that if you kick him enough, his deckchair falls off the pier and he begins to float away.

My Opinion

The end of the beginning (or is it the beginning of the end). In Fantasy World, Dizzy finally finds the familiar inventory mechanism and graphical style that would see him through his next four games. Also present are the ever loveable Yolkfolk (except Dora) who in this game help Dizzy find his way into the cloud castle to rescue his princess.

Fantasy World Dizzy is aptly named; fire-breathing dragons, a cloud castle, a treehouse village, a bottomless well, and many other fantastical things all feature in the game. The puzzles aren't too difficult and the coins are relatively easy to find. If you're new to the Dizzy games then Fantasy World is a good place to start; it's fairly typical of most of the games and, unlike others, you'll not have to tear all your hair out in order to complete it.

My Best Bits

  1. Visiting the other side of the world by jumping down a bottom-less well is a definitive highlight of the game. Controlling the little guy when on the other side is disorienting at first, but the player quickly begins to revel in the novelty.
  2. "The Amazing Illusion"; It's easy when you know how, but you'll have one frustrating time finding out.
  3. I'm not going to tell you what happens when you pick up the "Bottle of Whisky" or the "Large Round Hole", suffice it to say that humour abounds.
