Background Info 'Crouch' is an old version of the word 'cross', and hence was originally used with anything related to a cross. Within England, there is the river Crouch in Essex, the town of Burnham-On-Crouch, and a region within London called Crouch End. The earliest Crouch's that I have found so far are: Gibert Cruche, 1221, (Devon) Edmund Crouchback, 1245, (London) William Attecruche, 1290 (Essex) Laurence atte Crouch, 1327 (Sussex) Thomas C uch, 1327 (Essex)
