In Brief
As a widely respected Salsa DJ
among both dancers and other DJ's, Mambomagic has played throughout
Europe with a base in Manchester in the UK. From guest Dj'ing at dance
socials and club nights in the UK he was rewarded with bookings for
International Congresses and dance socials across Europe and was
invited to become the resident DJ in one of the largest and most
successful salsa club nights in the Northern UK. After taking on this
residency and propelling the night into new territory helping make it
the success it has now become, he decided to spend more time as a
travelling DJ and take up the European opportunities now being
offered.
His influences span wide with a
range of music including early artists from the Mambo era, through
Classic 60's and 70's salsa from New York and Puerto Rico through to
breaking new artists and countries at the forefront of Salsa and Latin
Jazz including Puerto Rico, New York, Columbia, Cuba and Venezuela. He
concentrates on playing floor filling classic dance grooves that all
dancers love and with his huge back catalogue of rare classic Old
Skool music there are always surprises in store! Additionally, as a
dancer he is becoming widely known for his ability as a DJ to always
intuitively know the mood of the floor, and can work it like few
others, knowing what the dancers want, how they're feeling and how to
keep them "in the zone" with slamming dance music all night.
He has been acknowledged by some of
the big names in the Latin Music industry for having the skills, music
and insight to globally represent the UK, now with the support of
fellow DJ's and dancers, he's expanded to play all over Europe and
more recently New York.
Background
What started as an obession to have
the biggest record collection at school, he went on to be the schools
official disk jockey and that was when it all started! He then moved
on to DJ in the commercial, house and dance music scene. Spinning in
and around the many clubs and bars in the north of England, he earned
respect for his deep understanding of music and his skills in the
technicalities of mixing. This time as a club DJ allowed him to
develop a unique insight into how dance floors work and flow and how
to work with the mood of the club. However as an avid lover and
collector of Latin music since his teens where he also took much
interest (as a music student at school) in studying it's structure,
roots and history he always wanted to be spinning the music that he
loved so dearly.
Several years ago he took an
interest in the salsa scene in the UK, from watching people dance, He
was inspired to learn the dance, first learning the basics of salsa
and then progressing on later to train in Mambo and Cha Cha (www.mambomagic.net/mambo.html). Where
he was living at the time, the majority of Latin DJ's were of peruvian
origin, and although the music was reasonable, the same songs of the
same type would be played each week sometimes even in the same order.
As a music collector and DJ he knew they were missing out and as a
social dancer, he wanted better music to dance to along with the
regular crowds, so he was encouraged to start spinning salsa. Drawing
on his vast Latin music collection and previous experience and insight
gained as a club DJ, that was when he began DJ'ing in the various
clubs in the rapidly expanding Latin scene in the Northern UK. He
quickly earned a respected reputation as the "dancers DJ", playing
for the serious hardcore dancers.
Outside of DJ'ing, Chris is a
student of Acoustics and Audio Engineering, so has production
credentials that few DJ's can rival, spending many hours working in
studios, remixing and mastering, studying room and spatial acoustics,
which gives him a great technical knowledge throughout the sound field
so he can ensure that the dancers hear what the DJ hears!
