I got into DJing in a funny way.  A year and a half ago, a serious injury forced me to temporarily reduce my dancing to a bare minimum.  Over the two years prior that I had been dancing salsa I had built up a small collection of salsa and as I began to learn more about the music and became more of a critical listener, I began to become unsatisfied with the music I was hearing in Boston.  I’d go to New York and hear all of this great music that I never heard in Boston.  Soon after I got injured my good friend April started a salsa social.  The DJ backed out at the last minute.  I borrowed some equipment and that was my first gig.  People seemed to like the music and it just went from there.  As I DJed more and more, I became even more obsessed with the music and have become and avid collector and student of the history of the music. 

My goal when I DJ is to make people smile, sweat, groove and maybe even hear some hot music they haven't heard before.

In addition to gigs in Boston, DJ Nik has played in New York at the East Coast Salsa Congress 2002, Jimmy Anton’s Social on numerous occasions, Kana Bar with DJ Babaloo, and has been the featured guest DJ at El Rumbero Friday Mambo Nights, the Piel Canela Mambo Social, and at Jai and Candy’s Holiday Mambo party in NJ.

He also appeared recently as a guest DJ in London at Mambo City’s Saturday night Mambo Party (thanks Robert!)
