A
Malaysian-born, Cuban-origin, Diva-Yatie has spent over 15 years in the UK
pursuing education and career as well as managing a family. A graduate in
BA (Hons), Dip. (Hons), MA in Architecture from London's University of
Greenwich in 1995, she currently involves herself in freelance
architectural work. Her creativity does not stop there, for it sways her
into another direction; the entertainment world! She has been passionate
about music and dance since the age of six. Trained in ballet,
contemporary, swing, hip hop dancing from various schools and colleges,
Yatie has played music and performed all over the world in capital cities
such as Tokyo, London, Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Dubai etc.
Her Latin
dancing started in Bar Madrid in London (1990), upon inspiration from and
after being enthused by a 'Kaoma' dancer, Karina Rebello, from Brazil.
Since then, Yatie has specialised in Salsa and Lambada, where over the
years wonderful opportunities to perform and choreograph for many
entertainment channels landed on her funky feet. These include TV series
Coldfeet, Jose Malagena Music Video, Stonewall Concert at Royal Albert
Hall, Michael Barrymore Latin Bonanza Show, BBC1 Question of Pops, BBC
Radio 1, DFS advert, Granada Breeze, Granada Radio Breakfast show and many
more. She now choreographs and teaches regularly at various venues in the
UK.
With a
certificate in Marketing & Management, she was assigned as an F&B
Entertainment Manager at a reputable London hotel, the 'Holiday Villa',
many clubs/venues throughout London/UK. She moved herself up the chart by
immersing into entertainment, not just by dancing but also by spinning
music! It was this passion for music that manufactured her deejaying
skill. This took her into another level, playing as DJ/Promoter in many
clubs throughout London including Equinox, Café De Paris, PONTINS, Bar
Rumba, Bar Salsa, Thunderdrive, and many more. Now, as one of the UK top
female DJs, 'DJ DivaYatie' devotes her time to playing an extensive
variety of music including R&B and Hip-Hop, Garage & Dance,
chart-toppers, Latin & World.
DJ
DivaYatie moved to Manchester in 1998 and began working as a promoter/DJ
at the legendary Copacabana. Since 1999, she has been the resident
DJ/Promoter/Dance Instructor at Manchester's most prestigious Latin Club
Havana. Marking a victory in her contribution to the Northwest's Latin
scene, Yatie has just been invited to host a regular Salsa evening at
Tiger Tiger, Manchester's most exclusive venue!
