They are believed to be more powerful than an "ordinary"angel and to have free will. An Arch Angel governs large groups or hosts of lesser angels. They also represent an aspect of divinity. These Angels are "messengers" which carry God's Divine Decrees" to humans and are ultimately in command of God's armies of Angels. They constantly battle evil and darkness with Michael as their leader.

Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are agreed to be the three of the seven.
Yhe identity of the other four are subject to debate.

The Tree of Life

You may wonder why I refer to the "Kabbalah" beliefs when talking of angels associated with Christianity and Christian beliefs. The answer is in the history and study of all religions.
symbols.jpg (6896 bytes)
Kabbalah is thousands of years old and is the mystical tradition and roots of Judaism.   There is a wide spread belief that Christ was a Kabbalistic Adept and that the roots of Christianity are in fact in the Kabbalah beliefs and teachings. This is what I myself believe.  There are in fact many references to Kabbalah in the Old Testament.   The Angelic Hierarchies and The Tree of Life as mentioned frequently make a direct association with Kabbalah beliefs and in my opinion cannot be ignored.
.  The word Kabbalah comes from a Hebrew verb that means both "give" and "receive."

The heart of the Kabbalah is the Tree of Life, as mentioned in Christian beliefs and teachings, and associated with the Arch Angels. It is in fact an abstract concept of sacred symbols which represent  the creation of the entire universe.

This concept includes all levels (spheres or planes) and the pathways that The Creator's Emanations flowed and  descended down into lower and lower planes until it formed the physical world of dense matter.
The concept of the system of symbols, representing the Tree of Life, illustrates every existing power or force in the state of "Being"  as it relates to the soul of man.  The Tree of Life not only shows us our path of Creation, it also shows us the path to a divine state of being "One" or an existence of our "purity of soul".  The Tree of Life similarly contain within their wisdom the paths of healing our bodies and souls. Hence the association with the Arch Angel Raphael.

Arch Angels and Magick

The practise of evoking the protection of the angels before carrying out rituals is common in some Earth Religions This involves the traditional associations with the four directions, which are used evoked in ritual magick. The power of the Archangels is evoked when drawing a magic circle. We call upon the protection of the Arch Angels as each corresponds with South, East, North and West. These are also the four quarters referred to in the practise of Wicca,
.
The Arch Angels are also associated with the task of elementals. Like that of the nature angels, or neutral angels they are evoked to build up forms in the natural world, thus providing an arena in which human souls can evolve spiritually.
It is believed the path or evolution is achieved through attaining a "One" with the forces and powers of nature and all that it encompasses.

Cherubim
An Order of angels, the 8th Order in a traditional hierarchy of angels ranked from lowest to highest into the following nine orders: angels, archangels, principalities, powers, virtues, dominions, thrones, cherubim, and seraphim. Uriel and Raphael are the Arch Angels who belong to this order.

Uriel is the actual "Chief Angel" of the Cherubim and the Seraphim because he is the "mortal fire" and protector of our souls. It is Uriel who is deemed responsible for leading us into the light and away from the paths of darkenss. Hence his position at the Gates of the Garden of Eden,
Raphael and Uriel are the keepers of Scared Wisdom..

Seraphim
The word seraphim means "Burning Ones" The Seraphim are believed to be to the highest order of Angels. The Bible refers to them as having six wings. They are the "Servants of God" and the "Praisers" of God. They are the Order of Angels which functions directly in God's presence and in a divine realm. These are the angels you see surrounding and hovering over the "Throne of God". Their "aura" or presence is one of smoke and fire.

And I have felt
A presence that disturbs me
with the joy of elevated thoughts;
a sense sublime
Of something far more deeply interfused,
Whose dwelling is the light of setting suns,
And the round ocean, and the living air,
And the blue sky, and in the Mind of man;
A motion and a spirit, that impels
All thinking things, all objects of all thought,
And rolls through all things.

SPECIAL MESSAGE

gallery6_reading.jpg (6157 bytes)
The whole concept of Angels brings an association of love, peace and forgiveness. I am hoping that by offering some more "in-depth" information on the Angels and the history of them which involves many different religions we can transcend religious prejudice and misunderstanding and come to realize that "your" religion, whatever it may be. has evolved from and contains traditions and beliefs from other religions. I pray that ultimately we can through this learning come to the realization that we really are

ONE PEOPLE ONE WORLD
and we will open our hearts and soul to the "Brotherhood of Man"
