PRAIRIE SUN

when I was a child I wandered
underneath the big sky
and slept snug
tucked in beneath the eaves
and heard the rain
beat gently against the roof
in the stillness of the night
slept sound, secure ..
waking everyday to sunshine
and prairie wind
moving through the grass
I marvelled at the waves
of its passing
and revelled in the freedom

dancing, twirling on the hill
one with the dust, the wind
the big blue sky
windmill slowly churning overhead                  the happy sounds of gentle voices
I grew there, thrived there
loved there, belonged there
and when I had to leave again
I lay in beds of clover
so deep so tall I hid there
from hurting voices
pain and loneliness
longing to hear the gentle voices

all I could see was the sky                   stretched so wide above me
and dreamed of being there
back underneath the big sky..
safe, secure, and happy
and dreamed of going back
to smiling faces gentle voices
underneath the big sky
my heart lifts
inside of me a song
I'm going home .....
