Dreams and Quotes by Famous Dreamers

My father passed away Sunday September 24th, 2000, this is a poem I wrote many years ago - the idea for the poem arose from my thoughts and feelings on his life at that time.

DREAMS
The old man cried for dreams he'd lost
"My son" he said "You don't know the cost..
The dreams I had and all let go
Whether it were friend or foe
I did for others, and not for me
Fought  a war, rasied a family
Loved a woman and   sired  a son
But when at last its said and done
I never cared for number one .."

Perhaps it is because of my father that I have always believed so strongly in following your dreams, and following your heart -- perhaps the dreams wont always come true and perhaps your heart will sometimes be broken but to me nothing could be worse than dying with regrets at dreams not followed or a life not fully lived.

In the words of Alfred Tennyson

Tears, idle tears, I know not what they are
Tears from the depth of some divine dispair
Rise in the heart and gather to the eyes
In looking on the happy auntumn fields
And thinking of the days that are no more.
