These are the new times of the Maritime Safety Information Broadcasts and Weather Information Broadcasts (all times are local times), which after an announcement on VHF Channel 16 will be broadcast on VHF Channel 23 from our South Stack transmitter (position 53 18.55N 003 41.1W) and VHF Channel 86 from our  Great Orme Head transmitter (position 53 20N 003 51.2W).

A full and comprehensive Maritime Safety Information Service will be available for broadcast on Navtex.

Inshore Waters reporting areas will be as follows:

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney;

Rattray Head to Berwick upon Tweed;

Great Orme Head to Mull of Galloway;

Berwick upon Tweed to Whitby;

Isle of Man;

Whitby to the Gibraltar Point;

Lough Foyle to Carlingford Lough;

5

Gibraltar Point to North Foreland;

14

Mull of Galloway to Mull of Kintyre the Firth of Clyde and North Channel;

6

North Foreland to Selsey Bill;

15

Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurchan Point;

7

Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis;

16

Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath and the Outer Hebrides;

8

Lyme Regis to Lands End including Isles of Scilly;

17

Shetland Isles within 60 miles of Lerwick

9

Lands End to St. Davids Head including the Bristol Channel;

 

 

Radio Communications

We communicate on all maritime VHF and MF Channels for operational and search and rescue operations, we maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF channel 16 and MF frequency 2182khz 

The normal radio procedure for non emergency calls is to call Holyhead Coastguard on either of the distress calling frequencies of  VHF Ch16 or MF 2182khz and then you will be request to switch to a working channel/frequency.
In a Mayday situation or any emergency call on VHF Ch16 or MF2182khz remembering to,

1. Give the name of your vessel, also callsign and MMSI number if they are registered 

2. Your current position

3. How many persons on board your vessel

4. The nature of your Mayday/emergency

Digital Selective Calling (DSC)

Digital selective calling is available on the frequencies VHF Ch 70 and MF 2187.5Khz

Medical advice and Link Calls

H.M. Coastguard have the responsibility for providing link calls for medical advice to vessels with injured or ill persons on board.

Vessels requiring this service should call Holyhead Coastguard on VHF Ch 16 requesting a medi-link call, giving the following information:

  1. Vessel's name.
  2. Callsign and/or fishing number.
  3. Current position.
  4. Casualties symptoms.
    You will then be put through to a doctor and receive the necessary advice.

HM COASTGUARD DOES NOT PROVIDE COMMERCIAL OR PRIVATE LINK CALLS.

Disposal of Time Expired Pyrotechnics

Time expired (non commercial use) pyrotechnics can be handed into the MRCC Holyhead for safe disposal. Arrangements may also be made to hand them in at any of the various Coastguard  Rescue stations around the District, however you should note that these stations are not continuously manned so it will be necessary to contact your local MRCC to arrange a suitable time and date.
