 2006 - AND BEYOND

FEB. 2003 (18 months into the locing process...)

MY RULES TO HEALTHY LOCS:

1. KEEP YOUR SCALP AND LOCS AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE
-lightly moisturise with easily absorbed products
(not petroleum based!)

2.DO NOT TWIST!
-If you want to get your loose hairs to stay put, wrap it or braid it with your loc. Twisting is the worst thing you can do
as it will thin out the loc over time and break it off.

3. TIME IS A NATURAL HEALER
-Your hair may feel like its out of control at the beginning, but locing really shows that with patience and time, things
sort themselves out.

4. LOVE YOUR LOCS AND THEY'LL LOVE YOU BACK
-I read this advice at the beginning of my locing process (when I had decided that my hair was "unsolvable" and didn't bother
with it -I was like, "HUH!?! How can I love them when things don't seem to be working the way I want?!?")
My mistake... As soon as I started to go with my locs instead of fighting them and giving them some attention, they started
to blossom.
In turn, I stopped being so stressed over it.

5.KEEP EVERYTHING AS NATURAL AS POSSINLE
-Ok, so maybe the sound of this might be a little scary for those of us who like to go in and buy their products with no hassle.
But staying natural doesn't mean EXTRA HASSLE. It means a start to a healing process for both hair and scalp and body. It
means a new and improved way of doing things. And don't think for one minute that it means less products available -being
natural just opens the door to a whole new product list. It means knowing what you are using and getting results with it.
I've learnt so much about natural properties since this move and I love it!

6.EAT PROPERLY
-hard to do but it makes a difference to both your spiritual and physical being.
Work from the inside first...

I'va added essential oils into my Almond Oil...

4 drops Tea Tree
4 drops Rosemary
2 drops Eucalyptus

Refreshing, Smells good, antiseptic, and promotes growth of hair and healing of the scalp...

I keep the oil in a cool and dark place to keep the essential oils 'alive'...

I've finally got a stable routine for my hair...

My locs have really started settling down more since December '02. It's only now that I have brought all the products that have worked for me together and developped a routine of doing things... before, I just kept experimenting and shampooing when I felt like it. Going with the flow and seeing what works for me. Now that the frizz has died down, I don't need to worry about the locs unravelling or frizzing while I shampoo, the roots are the MAIN focus now to build a strong base and to help develop healthy future locs. And what better way to care for them than by keeping the scalp clean and moisturised with cleansing and absorbing products -preferably as chemical free as you can get it.

I shampoo atleast 3 times a week, and then moisturise with light products. I hardly touch my locs now, apart from spraying them with the salt mix.

*I shampoo, massaging the scalp -2 rounds of shampoo per wash.

*Towel dry (no hairdryers) until damp.

*Leave my locs out to dry naturally (about 2 hours) -never tieing it up, just loose always while drying.

*Spray on my Almond Oil (only to the scalp) and rub in. *Leave out again.

*When my hair is really dry, I Hold my locs and spray the Sea Salt Mix ONLY to my locs. I avoid my scalp. *I look into the mirror and wrap my loose hairs at the root around my locs.

*I style the locs the way I want and go... Done! I do this 3 times a week. ___________________________________________________

I found that as I wash my hair, the root hairs get more tangled together during the drying process -locing better. Its only now that I noticed it.

*I watch the roots, if they are thinning, I join them. I don't want any of my locs to fall/break off.

******************************************************************************** MAY 8th 2003.

I've noticed a slight change as my knowledge has expanded over the last month.... I still wash my hair 3 times a week but I do it with conditioner instead and on the third wash, I use my normal shampoo. The 'no poo' method is a new concept to me but I've found it to REALLY work with my hair and I'm noticing the difference. I use 2 good conditioners per conditioner wash....

SUNSILK FRIZZ EASE

TEA TREE CONDITIONER BY BODY SHOP.

I massage the scalp when I use the conditioners as I always apply to the scalp first. You can read more on it in the section about washing your locs the right way.... the no poo method.

I would recomend you use this method when you are confident enough to deal with frizz from washing on a regular basis and when your locs have stopped unravelling...

WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU! -THATS WHAT COUNTS!

* A HEALTHY BODY, A HEALTHY MIND *

JUNE '03
Just started using yoga to deepen my daily meditation...
In the fast pace of things, our bodies tend to do one thing, while our minds are off doing another.
Connecting our body and mind is the first step to awareness and deeper relaxation.

I've been looking for something to help me keep fit and 'activated' for a while now...
The whole going to the gym thing didn't appeal,
So I'm glad that I've finally found something that will help me learn about myself, my body and its limits, and be part of my meditation -all at the time, at MY own pace... I'm really starting to enjoy it and even though its still early days, I do feel calmer and my meditation has taken a whole new level to it...

LOVIN' IT!
