EVERY LOC HEAD IS INDIVIDUAL

I made the mistake of having expectations at the beginning -I could have avoided all the stress if I had realised:

* Each person's locs are going to look and feel different.

*The hair type of each person shapes the locs to the way they will look.

* I should not compare other people's loc appearances to mine.

We are all different, which is why locs are so beautiful in the first place!

DRY LOCS -OR IS THIS JUST MY TEXTURE?

All loc wearers will tell you that it is normal that your locs will sometimes feel dry and need a good intense conditioner to restore the moisture.

It may just be the hair texture that makes our locs feel dry, when really it isn't. Remember that locs are not supposed to be shiny, like relaxed hair. Locs can be perfectly healthy and still have a matt appearance.

Here are a few reasons for why your locs may be feeling dry:

* Using plenty of products can cause build-up which causes a duller and dryer feel and look.

* The shampoo you are using may be too harsh on your locs.

*You are not using the right moisturisers for your hair.

Here are a few tips to help restore your locs:

*If you are a regular/daily loc rinser or loc washer, consider the 'NO POO' method for a softer cleanse.

*Spray on some natural oil for quick fix moisture.

* Soak your locs in Olive oil overnight or for a couple of hours before washing off.

* Stop using leave-in products. I like to use natural oils that are used in Aromatherapy to spray -my favourite, Sweet Almond Oil. See the link below for info on the different oils you can use.

*Stop using a blow-dryer, towel dry instead.

* Eat healthier food to produce healthier hair and skin.

*I have just read that using a brush (with soft brisstles) to 'comb' the locs down can bring back the healthier cotton-wool look to locs. So, I tried it: Sprayed on some light oils, got a brush and GENTLY brushed down my locs for 5 minutes- Result: My locs feel healthy and they are so soft. I think I might start using this method for when my locs feel dull and need a boost. Not too sure how well it would work with new locs though...
