FUZZY, LUSCIOUS, UNTAMED, COMFORTABLE...
WHAT DOES FREEFORM LOCING MEAN TO YOU?

A FEW THOUGHTS....

A series of barriers that I have come across through the loc journey:

Becoming natural for good, never living another LYE.
My personal fear of new locs with their own mind
Other people's perception of what locs mean
Loc hate from strangers

And now...
People's dislike for freeform locs.

A few things I have heard, from people with and without locs:

"Freeforming should only be for men"
"Freeforming is a dirty option"
"Freeform locs are not the right way to loc your hair"
"You looked so much better with manicured roots"
"What are you thinking leaving your locs to do that?!?"
"Girl, your locs look really nasty like that!"
"You getting lazy these days huh?"

...A few of the nicer comments.

As I mentioned, it was not just from ignorant people who were not loc friendly... Some of these comments were from people who had been locing for years!

For this reason, I felt it was time to do a section to support freeformers. I have already have a few thoughts in my 2004: Freeform Freedom! section.

In my search for websites for freeform info, I only came across a page from naani.com .

There is still huge ignorance and stereotyping within the loc community. Why should people assume that freeforming is ugly, less attractive or dirty? Or maybe they have come across a few freeformers who have given it a bad reputation?

Certainly, from what I see in the public eye (on tell-lie-vision), they give every reason for people to assume this. I recently was watching a popular show where this fool had freeform locs for 8 years and never once washed it!  Yup, thats just nasty.

On observation, I have also noticed a few freeformers expressing their dislike for manicured locs, saying that it had taken the real dreadlock to a superficial level.

Two sides to a coin.

My personal favourite is the thick freeform locs, I have a staring problem when I see them lol (out of loc love of course!) , but thats not to say that manicured locs are less attractive in my eye. Maybe, we all just have personal preferences. Thats normal I guess.

Its not about putting barriers between loc types, it is about bringing it together -- Loc tolerance.
