Afrodisc, Rokel and Sabanoh Sounds were labels used to release some excellent African singles in the UK in the 1970s. The records were produced by Akie Deen, from Sierra Leone. The background to the records is described in John Collins's book "West African Pop Roots" (Temple University Press, 1992), but a couple of key points bear repeating here. Firstly, that Afro Akino (the first two releases on Afrodisc) was a pseudonym for the African Brothers Band, from Ghana. Secondly, that the membership of Afronational, Sabanoh 75 and Wagadu Gu seem to have consisted largely of the same group of musicians. Bunny Mack's records tend very much towards an African disco sound, but most of the earlier releases are fine quality Sierra Leone sounds.
