Ayinde Bakare
Ayinde Bakare and his Group: Live the Highlife - Melodisc MLP AS 12-140

This was recorded during the group’s visit to the UK in 1957, and many of these tracks were released on Melodisc singles as well as on the LP, which seems to have appeared much later. Although issued with a Melodisc number, the actual label on the disc (at least on this particular copy) uses the “Fab” design (Fab was a Melodisc subsidiary, used primarily for Prince Buster releases!). Despite the title, the music is not “highlife” but juju - Bakare was an important figure in the development of this Nigerian syncretic style, and this album features some beautiful music, with acoustic or lightly amplified guitar and percussion accompaniment.
