Olatunji
Olatunji: More Drums of Passion - CBS 62961

Originally from Nigeria, Babtunde Olatunji was based in the USA and was a celebrated figure on the New York music scene from the 1950s onwards (there’s a rather sardonic reference to him in one of the songs on “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan”). His 1959 album “Drums of Passion” (Columbia CL 1412) enjoyed
considerable cult interest, and also became highly collectable. This follow-up came quite a bit later (1966), and was produced by Teo Macero, better known for his work with jazz musicians, including Miles Davis. “More Drums of Passion” take a pan-African approach, with tunes and rhythms from several different countries.
