Eddie Quansah
Eddie Quansah: Che Che Kule - Island ILPS 9446

Probably not really rare, this one, but notable for being released on Island (1977) some years before they launched their African series. So far as I know, it hasn’t been reissued on CD, so vinyl is the only way to get it. The music is a more funk and jazz-oriented progression on Afrorock (note various members of Osibisa among the band) with big horn arrangements, and lots of percussion. Eddie Quansah comes from Ghana (now resident in Australia) and there are certainly highlife flavours detectable in the mix, but the cover design, which contrasts urban images of skyscrapers and neon signs with jungle plants and animals, does seem to reflect the sound he's aiming for on the record.

Eddie Quansah: trumpet, flugel horn, french horn, congas, percussion, vocals

Other musicians include: Dick Cuthell, Mac Tontoh, George Larnyoh, Ray Allen, Kiki Gyan, Emmanuel Rentzos, Pete Wingfield, Kofi Ayivor, Remi Kabaka, Roy Bedeau Spartacus, Reebop (and many others).
