A selection of rare LPs of African music, released in the UK from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Various: Something New From Africa Classic kwela anthology from the late 1950s, featuring Little Lemmy and others.
Amadu Bansang Jobarteh This was probably the first ever UK album release by a solo kora player.
Ginger Johnson: African Party The only 12" album release from this master percussionist from Nigeria.
Mamadou Seck and Boubacar Diabate: African Songs 1960s release on Major Minor, recorded in France, featuring kora and guitar.
The Kars: African Songs Odd Anglo-Swiss release from Ugandan folksingers, with' a mix of traditional and modern instruments.
Assagai: Zimbabwe The second album, by the "other" major Afrorock band, led by the great Dudu Pukwana.
Dudu Pukwana & Spear: In the Townships All-time classic township jazz album, in it's original LP release on Caroline.
Manhattan Brothers: Concert Immortal South African vocal group, recorded live in London in the 1960s.
Eddie Quansah: Che Che Kule Pioneering release from Island in the late 1970s, featuring Ghanaian trumpet player in funky highlife-based arrangements.
Tunde Nightingale Very rare 1960s album on Melodisc by juju great, recorded in London.
Olatunji: More Drums of Passion CBS release, featuring the New York-based Nigerian percussionist.
Ayinde Bakare: Live the Highlife Magnificent compilation on Melodisc of the 1950s singles by this wonderful juju singer and guitarist from Nigeria.
