Old Firm Info |
History of the Old Firm Rangers were officially formed in 1873 . C*ltic were formed in 1888 by Catholic priests specifically for Catholic immigrants from Ireland but the club maintains it has no religious links. Honest. Rangers and C*ltic collectively became known as the 'Old Firm' due to the business savvy they applied to running the clubs. The Old Firm quickly established themselves as Scotland's two most successful teams; C*ltic by their skilful, cavalier-style football and Rangers by Masonic conspiracy which also involved the refereeing fraternity and the Scottish Football Association. Probably the CIA too. History was created in July 1989 when Rangers' manager Graeme Souness signed ex-C*ltic striker Maurice Johnston. A controversial signing due to the fact that Johnston is ginger. Souness claimed when he joined Rangers that he would sign players irrespective of their hair colour and he proved as good as his word. Nowadays hair colour isn't an issue for Rangers or its fans. Indeed, Rangers currently have a ginger manager, Alex McLeish. The club's first ginger manager. Today, of course, all hostilities between the clubs have ended and opposing fans often gather in bars together to buy each other drinks and sing their quaint folk songs. Two old firm fans are pictured below congratulating each other and swapping views after another sporting Rangers-C*ltic game.
