What's New

What's New :

Dynamite is a free PC version of the popular Bomberman games, inspired by Dynablaster (Atari ST/Amiga), Bomberman (SNES) and Blitzbombers (Amiga). See the "Welcome to Dynamite" section for more information..

What's New :

23rd March - oops..

A long time with no updates. Sorry about that. For now Dynamite is on hold as I develop other projects further. I had hoped to develop a little community to drive me to develop dynamite further. Perhaps a tad optimistic, but safe to say the level of feedback was generally disappointing.

Don't mail to Dynamite_feedback@hotmail.com as I will only check this infrequently now. I'm on the Allegro.cc boards sometimes so if you have a question you could try posting there.

Thanks to the people who did mail me. I'll leave the game here for other people ot download for now.

Rich.

8th December - Big Changes..

Some big changes to this site made after a period of no updates. Firstly, the counter has gone as It has not been worked for some time. Secondly, the Message Board has gone as no one was using it anyway. Third I've removed the Dos version because it wasn't the latest version (v0.92) which had some bugs fixed and I've had no requests for a v0.92 Dos Version.

After much deliberation I've decided that I am going to develop the bomberman idea more, but not with Dynamite. I'm going to start a new project which will be very very similar to the original dynablaster/bomberman games. With the same fun, graphic style, music and with AI. I'll post something on the net as soon as I have done a bit more work, as I am only in the very first stages. The game shouldn't be too long to develop though as a lot of the code will be taken from dynamite but rewritten to be more flexible, readable and generally better written!

In the meantime, if anyone wants to help me out with some music for Dynamite or with the new game (music in the bomberman style) then please mail me.. I want to release v1.0 of Dynamite before I work totally on the new bomberman game. Any help with music would be appreciated as I am not a musician!

21st November 2001 - Not much news at the moment..

Not much news to report at the moment, no more bugs seem to have been found and I've had a few more e-mails with suggestions, which all help. I even had a guy called Baine X posting a message on the message board! WOW! So thanks for that..;)!

The only 'bug' at the moment is that the site counter now seems to have died and the web page which supplied it is dead too. DOH! Oh well, I'll remove the counter soon if it isn't somehow resuurected!

At the moment I'm debating whether to do a major overhaul on the old code of dynamite. Rewritting sections at a time and making the game more flexible and adding a lot of new features.. As well as redoing the graphics and sound of course.

It would be a lot of work, but I think the effort might be well worth it!

19th November 2001 - No real bugs found and a few people have suggested new ideas too.

The good news is that there are no reports of any big bugs, or any real problems. I've even had a few people mail me with some quite detailed suggestions, which I've tried to respond to in kind.

I'm debating to myself at the moment whether to add some more things to dynamite or start a new project (as I have a lot of ideas for my next game) and return to dynamite later. Half of me wants to add new stuff to Dynamite, and the other half wants to start a new project.. ;)

(A few people have reported problems with the download link, but this is a problem with the Tripod Servers and not my webpage, keep trying and mail me if you really want to play the game...)

Well, we'll see what happens soon.. but I'm glad that this version now seems to work without any major problems for most people. I hope people play it more than Atomic Bomberman! :D or other bomberman games.. Rich.

16th November 2001 - More downloads and links - no major bugs found.

I have a link on the flipcode.com image of the day website which resulted in some nice mails. I also have my game in the depot on the allegro.cc webpage, as well as a link from the retro remakes web site! So all in all a lot more downloads..

I have had one person saying the game doesn't work on his pc, I think it may be a directx problem (he has v8.1). Has anyone else had problems running the game?

Well judging by people's responses it seems some of you want some "mad music" and others LAN or Internet support and higher screenmodes with more players. Gulp! ;)

I'll have to think about it, as I'm already thinking about what I can do to add to the game.. That's if people are interested as not one person has bothered posting anything on the message board..

I know I keep asking people to give me feedback, but it looks like I'll just have to make the game I want to play (which is not a bad thing for me anyway), instead of letting other people in on the development... Keep visiting this site for more updates..!

13th November 2001 - Fixed a one line graphics bug in v0.92 (not worthy of a 0.93 release..) & New Forums in the Message Board.

The bug afected the flame monster icon, in that if you got it and stood still the game tried to do the animations for a blinking and foot tapping bomberman (but since there aren't any for a flame monster it just disappeared..) Now fixed.. in both the v0.92 full download and the patch.

I've also added a few new topics to the Message Board and would like to urge everyone to please reply to these. It's your chance to shape the development of this game after all, give me valuable feedback and see what other people's ideas are.. Thank you.

12th November 2001 - Full download of Dynamite (Windows) version 0.92 and the patch to v0.92 released.

Well the feedback from a couple of people seems to indicate that the walking through walls bug has now hopefully been fixed. However a new bug was created where if you planted a bomb you could walk over that bomb and all adjacent bombs too!... Still it looked funny! ;)

Version 0.92 seems to fix both these bugs, but if it doesn't or there are any new problems then mail me! Upto 335 visitors now, so it does seem popular! Still no-one seems to want to talk about new features or ideas or anything much really.. Well I hope there are some people out there who want to see this game developed further anyway!

(Oh, I might do a v0.92 Dos Version of Dynamite if enough people ask me.. As no one has mentioned the Dos version so far..)

11th November 2001 - Added a patch for the windows version to v0.91.

Wow, a busy day for updates today.. (well it is a Sunday and I'm staying in this weekend!) I've uploaded a Work In Progress Patch to update the windows version of v0.9 to v0.91. Hopefully in this version the walking through walls bug has been fixed, but I will need your feedback to know for sure. I've had to rewrite some of the movement routines so it's possible that a few new bugs have been made.. if so tell me and I'll try to fix them!

If there are no problems with this new version I'll upload the entire new zip files for the window version..

Dynamite Patch (Windows Version) - 33k to update v0.9 to v0.92 (updated the patch to v0.92 now..) (just extract the files to where you extracted the game to before)

Note: If you extracted the game to C:\Games, you would have made C:\Games\Dynamite.. in that case just extract this patch to C:\Games.. no need to go all the way into the dyanmite directory.. hope that makes sense!

11th November 2001 - Added a Links Page.

I've added a Links page.. to websites of people who are friends and who have provided help, encouragement, and testing.

Added "Michael P. Welch" Link (author of Scorched Tanks on the Amiga and DX-Ball on the PC).

11th November 2001 - A few bugs reported...

I have had a few bugs reported, a problem where there is no sound and a strange one where you can walk through the walls.. hmmm.. I've had a look at the code and I think the walking through walls bug has something to do with the timer routines.. therefore for now please try the game in GFX UPDATE: SLOW (in the game options mode) and see if it still occurs. If a specific powerup was selected that causes this or some specific situauion then please let me know!

I will try to fix both bugs, but some more detailed information on when it goes wrong would help.

There is a news report on the release of my game on the allegro.cc homepage, and also in the forums. This has really helped the number of visitors as there are now 205 hits. I've even had a couple of people mail me which is nice. I presume that apart from those bugs the game works for nearly everyone. I hope so.. if not let me know..

Finally.. do you want to see this game further developed to possibly include AI bombermen, more icons, different graphics and maps etc..? Are people interested in this kind of game or do they prefer Quake games now?

Cheers, Rich.

9th November 2001 - NEW Addition.. DOS Version now available!

After a request from someone who did not have Windows on his PC, I have created a version for DOS. I have only tested this version for a short time, so if you have any problems then leave a message or mail me. See the Download Page for the two links to the DOS and the Windows version.

Hmm.. 55 Visitors so far to my little site.. but no mails or messages from anyone to say the game works at all! I assume it does then.. No message or mails to say if you like it or not either..

Please do tell me what you think about this game. If it seems that no one is bothered by it then I might not develop it further. However if people are interested in seeing new features and ideas implemented then please leave a message on my message board or contact me so that I am motivated to continue to update this game and this Webpage. I am trying to create a little community here for sharing allegro and general game programming ideas and to let you all develop the game to be the bomberman game that YOU want to play... now I have my fingers crossed for more response!

Thanks, Richard Phipps.

8th November, 2001 - Webpage and public BETA launched.

This Web Page is launched! The first BETA version is uploaded to the general public..
