Our aim is to showcase writers living in Scotland, embracing a variety of genres and languages. The Book Fringe is a celebration of literature as an extension of and complementary to the International Book Festival in Charlotte Square. It is, however, a completely separate entity and in no way connected to the International Book Festival.
The Edinburgh Book Fringe will be held at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh, from 19-22 August 2004. In the spirit of the Fringe, groups or individuals will be able to book slots and organise an event. There will be five 50 minute slots each day on Friday 20 August, Saturday 21 August and Sunday 22 August, starting at 10:30am each day. The last slot begins at 4:00pm. There is a £20 booking fee per slot. Tickets to your event(s) will be sold for £1 each and ticket revenue will be split 50/50 with the Edinburgh Book Fringe Society your 50% will be remitted to you in September. The gallery space at City Art Centre has a capacity of 80 seated or 150 standing.
Edinburgh Book Fringe will be arranging five half-day workshops running alongside the events. A Word Power bookstall will stock titles by the writers involved throughout the three days. Further details of book supply arrangements will be provided in July; having a book published and in print is not a pre-requisite for participating. We will also be arranging special lunchtime events with guest speakers.
The run-up timetable is constrained and is as follows:
