Pensions
Under the Conservatives many
pensioners were faced with a tough choice either buy food or heat their homes.
As a result many actually died of cold.
Faced with this totally unacceptable situation our present government took the
following measures.
1. £150 winter allowance for all pensioners.
2. Minimum Income Guarantee of £78, rising to £90 next year.
3. Free eye tests.
4. Free TV licenses from the age of 75.
The next step is three years of above-inflation general increases. Followed by
the introduction of the
pensioners' credit in 2003.
These people have earned these basic rights and should never be in a position where they have to die of cold or feed themselves.
