Okay,
to start this off, I must state that I am anything but a Cardcaptors supporter.
Cardcaptors is horrible and I hate watching it, therefore I don't any
longer. Now, many people must wonder, "How can you hate it? It's
practically the same thing as Card Captor Sakura!"
Right??
I'm sorry, but that would be
wrong. Cardcaptors is the dubbed (translated) version of Card
Captor Sakura. To say it is the same thing would be like saying a raisin is
the same as a grape. A raisin is a little, dried up, shriveled up thing
sometimes with
added sugar, derived from a juicy, round fruit. Get my drift?
There are many fans out there that would agree that Cardcaptors is a sad
adaptation of the original. Mainly for about 13 basic reasons:
1.
Many scenes (and I mean...TONS) were totally eradicated from the original to
make the dub.
2. Many concepts were totally
changed.
3.
Most of the names,
including pronunciations, were also totally changed. The intention was
either to make it more relatable to American children or easier to pronounce. It
was changed pointlessly sometimes though.
Syaoran
Li= Li Showron
Tomoyo Daidouji= Madison Taylor
4.
The setting was changed.
It now takes place in some town named Reedington, rather than ClAMP's Tomeda,
Japan.
Little things trying to make it more relative
for North American viewers. It may have made it easier to pronounce,
but it wrecked the nature of the series.
5.
The voice actors were
grotesque in comparison to the original and the personalities have changed a
great deal.
Sakura went from cute, sweet and
innocent to annoying, outlandish and a tad bossy. Li's V/A was changed
probably 5 times.
6.
The plot was drastically
changed and many things contradicted itself.
7.
Many, if not all the episodes
were shown out of order.
8.
Relationships were
changed.
Excuse me, but Meilin and Li
*are* cousins. And, sorry again, but Zachary and Chelsea are
boyfriend/girlfriend not cousins!
9.
Many of the episodes were not
shown at all!! This means that the show made little or no sense.
10.
Many of the romantic
bits even the remotely romantic stuff were totally cut out.
For example, if Syaoran was blushing
around Sakura, just blushing, it was cut out.
11.
Many scenes were cut out from
certain episodes and pasted into other episodes. My guess is this was to
make up the 25 minutes needed for an episode. ...And since 5 minutes of just
one episode was cut out...
12.
Theme was emphasized
more on the cards and less on the character development.
This is exactly what
they did with Pokemon. That's why
it's now "Gotta Kill 'Em all" rather than "Catch 'Em".
:P
13.
And the saddest, most
hurtful thing of all for all those Li+Sakura fans...Syaoran never told
Sakura he loved her....because that--the sweetest, most beautiful part of
Cardcaptor Sakura...was CUT!
The
point is the companies (Nelvana and
Kid's
WB) that decided to drag this wonderful, amazing anime overseas, decided
that it was not right for North American etc. audiences so they changed
everything they could.
About 70, butchered, badly dubbed episodes showed in Canada which greatly
outnumbers the amount ever shown in the USA.
