Horticultural Section
The horticultural section has many different classes for you to enter into, flowers, wines and crafts are all included. Here you'll find all the information about this section. Judging on Show day starts at 10am during which time the tent is closed to all exhibitors and spectators. Staging for this event is available on the Sunday evening before between 5pm and 7pm and on the Monday morning from 7am to 9.30am.

Class & Description
1 Society Championship - This class is open to societies and associations, such as Gardening Clubs, Women's Institutes, etc, as well as families and individuals. It gives entrants and opportunity to demonstrate all-round skills and ability. In order to enter this class, 5 items shoulds be selected from the following schedule with no more than 2 from any one sections, these 5 selections then become one entry in this class. The specialist judges will mark each item out of a maximum of 20 points. The entry scoring the highest combined points will win. In the event of a tie, the preference will be given to the entry covering the most sections of the schedule
Section 2 -Dahlias
2 Humberside Championship - 4 vases of 3 dahlias from the folloing classes:
3 One decorative dahlia, giant or large in a vase
4 Three decorative dahlias small or miniature
5 Three decorative dahlias, medium
6 One cactus or semi-cactus dahlia, giant or large
7 Three cactus or semi-cactus dahlias, medium
8 three cactus or semi-cactus dahlias, small or miniature
9 Three pompom dahlias upto 2"
10 Three ball dahlias upto 4"
11 Vase of 3 medium and vase of 5 small or miniature dahlias, any section(s)

  Children wishing to exhibit cookery items that they have made themselves may do so with no entry fee. Their exhibits will, however, be judged to adult standards

Section 7 - Wine

  All wines should be made by the process of ermentation and exhibited in clear, punted bottles of approx 75cl capacity. Corks should be flanged type without coverings. Labels should be approx 50mm x 25mm with a description of the wine fixed approx 25mm above the bottom of the bottle

  Children wishing to exhibit any other fruit, flowers or vegetables that they have grown themselves, may do so in the adult sections with no entry fee. Their produce will, however, be judged to adult standards.

Grand Auction

There will be an auction outside the Horticultural tent at 4.30pm when, with the owners agreement, exhibits of dahlias, chrysanthemums, other flowers, fruit and vegetables will be sold to the highest bidder. All proceeds go to Society funds.


Horticultural Section Rules
1 The committe will be on the Showground from 5pm to 7pm on Sunday and 7am to 9.45am on Monday to recieve exhibits. All Entries must be staged by 9.30am
2 Only bona-fide exhibitors will be allowed into the tent priot to judging. All persons except officials must leave the tent by 10am
3 No cards or exhibits may be removed before 3.30pm without the approval of the section secretaries. Any item not removed by 4pm will be deemed to be a donation and will be auctioned on behalf of society funds
4 The decision of the judges is final except as provided in rule 5, the judges may withhold any prize where there is evidence of lack of merit or where there are less than three entries, may award places according to the merit of entries
5 If any dispute whall arise, notice must be given to the secretaries on the day of judging with a fee of £2.00. The matter of the dispute will be considered by at least three members of the committe, whose decision will be final. In the event of the objection being sustained the fee will be refunded, otherwise it will be forfeited and placed in Society funds.
6 The committe will take all care that is possible but will not hold themselves responsible for damage or loss of any exhibit. Exhibitors should generally supply their own containers, however, vases are available for the larger dahlia classes.
7 Prize monies will be paid out at 3.45pm
8 All exibits are to be the property of the exhibitor and should have been in their possession for at least 28 days prior to the show. Any departure will result in disqualification. All horticulutral exhibits shall be grown by the exhibitor, with the exception of Class 22 entries. All handicrafts shall be the work of the exhibitor.
9 Points will be awared 1st - 3, 2nd - 2 and 3rd - 1
10 All trophies are perpetual. A Society Shield will be given to anyone winning three times in succession. All trophies are to be returned by 9.30am on Show Day
11 Any exhibitor whose entry fees total more than the cost of adult admission will have their admission refunded on production of their ticket.
12 All cars must be removed to the main exhibitors car park by 10am in accordance with Health and Safety regulation.
