Churches Together

Churches Together in Sleights has 3 lay representatives and the clergy from St. John's Church of England in Sleights, Briggswath and Littlebeck Methodist Churches and English Martyrs R.C.
We meet about 6 times a year to organise joint Services or activities to be held in each Church in turn, or at some other suitable place within the villages. These include an evening at St. Oswald's Pastoral Centre in Sleights, where we have a service during Christian Unity Week and a Lent course. We participate in an Act of Witness on Good Friday and a Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday and we hold joint services at Pentecost and Advent. In August we have a Display at the Sleights Horticultural Show letting people know that we are active in the village. During October's One World Week we have a Frugal Supper of soup, bread, a piece of cheese, and orange to drink. This meal is followed by a Speaker who addresses an appropriate subject. Usually there is a Tear Fund or Traidcraft stall at the Supper. To finish off the year we go Carol Singing in the village during December.
We advertise our Services and activities in The Link, which is the parish magazine, at various places within the village and in The Whitby Gazette which is the local newspaper.
Dear Lord our Heavenly Father.
At the dawn of the new millennium:
In a world of darkness, give us your light,
In lands of war and prejudice, grant us your peace,
In a world of despair, give us hope,
In a world of hatred, show us your love,
In a world of arrogance, give us humility,
In a world of disbelief, give us your faith.
Give us courage to face the challenges of feeding the hungry,
clothing the naked,
housing the homeless,
and healing the sick,
Give us the power to make a difference in your world, and to
protect your creation.
Through Jesus Christ ,our Lord, Amen
