What Euro-films mean to me: There has never been any doubt in my mind that European directors have neither the time or the budget to be distracted by plot-destroying extras that Hollywood so frequently employs. It is rare to find a film stuffed with pyrotechnics whose storyline has not suffered in some way with the energies of the crew being diverted elsewhere. Euro-films tend to concentrate more on the plot and quality of how it is presented. Personally, I find the results more satisfying to watch. My favourite director is Luc Besson, and he is a shining example of how good films can be when you have a director who cut his teeth on low-budget and learned to concentrate on other things. Now, he has the best of both worlds - incredibly visual imagination and stubborn insight as to how he wants a film to be........and now he has the funds to do it! So there - Euro-films are usually just plain better.
