Fanny Ardant: “I’m romantic
for two”
by Matthias Greuling
“I never chose my parts according to money” says Fanny Ardant. The French
superstar presented in Cannes the movie “The Smell of Blood”. An Italian
production directed by Mario Martone and presented in the category “Sidebar
Directors' Fortnight”.
The 55-year-old actress always tried to stay independent. “I have a simple
apartment in Paris, no house, no yacht, or other knickknacks. Therefore I
don’t have to accept roles for money. That’s because I don’t have to support
an expensive lifestyle.” says Ardant in an exclusive interview with
Cineplexx.at.
“The most important thing for me is my freedom. That’s also the reason why I
really enjoyed working with Mario Martone and Michele Placido in “The Smell
of Blood”. The story of the film is the marriage of a middle-aged woman. Her
unfaithful husband shows signs of jealousy when she takes a much younger
lover. Sexually daring scenes make this movie into a small scandal. "But I
didn’t care.” says Ardant. “The film shows sex how it really is without
painting a beautiful picture or to stylize and idealize it. ”Real sex is not
romantic, it’s rather hard and not beautiful to watch. That doesn’t mean I’m
not romantic.” says Ardant. “To the contrary! I’m romantic and passionate.
The ideal man should have humor and intelligence. He doesn’t have to be
romantic, because I’m romantic for two!”
