News: Geordie Fantasy League - Season Review 2002/03

With the CYKI website not running a league for the 2002/03 season, the Geordie Fantasy League found itself turning to the official Premier League website to host the competition. The league developers were the same people from the CYKI website, but poor organisation meant that the league didn't actually kick off (or so we thought) until 4 weeks into the season. It then transpired that the league was to be put back a further 2 weeks, therefore the first 6 weeks of the season were missed due to the Premier League's official website.

Pre-Season

On what was thought to be the first week of scoring (pre-season actually - see above), the league was topped by Real Morpeth, followed by Teasas Army. This turned out to be rather ironic considering the final league standings for these teams (bottom & second bottom!).
Pre-season week 2 saw Chickenlips Toon at the top of the table, but the important stuff was about to start.

Season Proper

The early weeks of the season are very tight with the top spot changing from week to week - Washington Geordies, Sandy's Muppets and Big Red Lob Stars all seeing the top spot at one point or another, but Chickenlips, Robbos Rockets & Chester Flyers are all there or thereabouts. Eventual winners Dry White Toast seem to be just outside the top places, where they stay for most of the season.
Surprisingly, reigning champions Easy Tigers spend most of the time in the bottom half of the table, until the latter half of the season where they make some solid scores which eventually sees them finish 5th in the table.
Pre-season leaders Real Morpeth & Teasas Army, find themselves at the bottom of the table most of the season, along with fellow mediocre and "mid table" teams Hackers Utd, Left Foot Screamers, Beadlesfists, and Bazzas Blinders.

In the Christmas period, the Lob Stars hit some form and spend several 6 weeks in the top spot, while the other teams jockey for position. They are knocked off by Chickenlips for a short time, but soon reclaim it.
Sandy's Muppets spend some time at the top after new year, but in Dry White Toast then start to put a good run together, and climb from mid-table to contenders.

In a climatic finish to the season, any of the top four (Sandy's Muppets, Chickenlips Toon, Dry White Toast & Big Red Lob Stars) could win going into the final week, and all teams gamble with substitutions and captaincy to try and nick it, however Dry White Toast, go to the top of the league for the first time in the season and in the process take the title.

All in all, a very exciting and varied season, in stark contrast to the 2001/02 season.
