After a break for the Autumn university term, Feline returned to the stage over Christmas 1994 with a sprightly new addition to their line-up: a real live human drummer!
Feeling that the whole ZX Spectrum live-on-stage concept was getting a bit unwieldy, Nick & Dave asked their old drumming friend Stephen McDonnell to help out. (Stephen had previously played with them in old skool daze bands such as the Eno-tastic Oblique Strategy and the completely ahine Blue Powder Monkeys project.)
The time needed rehearse with their new drummer meant there were no new songs at these gigs, but the Belfarce audiences seemed to like the old material much better when it was performed with 'real' drums (conservative phillistines!)
David didn't do much singing at these gigs—at the tender age of 21, he had been diagnosed with nodules on the larynx (the result of too much vocal strain), and was under strict doktor's orders to rest his voice, otherwise he might loose it altogether :-O
David's beloved bass pedals were also out of action, after being dropped by a security guard in Heathrow Airport, then suffering a series of botched repairs by the completely ahine Belfarce shops The Elektrannicks Centre and Tray Elektrannicks (including taping up the circuit board with sellotape?!?)
This pair of gigs around Christmas were 'new band showcases', courtesy of local broadcasting legend & glam rock star Johnny Hero . Other acts on the bills included Toaster and Alumni Feedback.
Johnny Hero also invited Feline to record a session for broadcast in his show on Downtown Radio…they record four songs in Downtown's Newtonards studios.
AUDIO ARCHIVE:The 2nd of these gigs was recorded on tape—here is Synthesizer Model 2, a wee instrumental we used to use to warm up the instruments at the start of the set and check everything was in tune…
