Recent Goals
Recent goals is a way of showing fairly accurately how well a team has been performing in whichever arena it will be playing in (home or away). Look at, for example, The Racing Post’s weekend six-match form section. Count how many goals the home team has scored in however many home matches it has played in the last six games. You will get a fraction (for example, 3 goals scored for in 2 home games is 3/2). Do exactly the same for the goals against. Subtract the goals against from the goals for (this may be easier to do if the fractions are decimalised e.g.3/2 become 1.5). This will give you a home goal difference. Do the same with the away team, except use the away matches. You will end up with a home goal difference for the home team and an away goal difference for the away team. Again, you are looking for a large difference between the two numbers. For example, it could go something like this:

 BURNLEY         v         BLACKPOOL
 (a) 1-2 Luton                (h) 2-2 Wigan
 (h) 5-0 Wrexham          (a) 1-1 Cardiff
 (a) 1-0 Barnet               (h) 2-0 Stoke
 (h) 2-0 Bristol C           (a) 2-0 Wycombe
 (a) 1-0 Cambridge U   (h) 1-2 Oldham
 (a) 1-1 Millwall            (h) 0-5 Bury

Burnley have played 2 home games in their last 6, and have scored 7 goals - +7/2 (+3.5). They have had no goals scored against them - 0/2 (0). +3.5 - 0 = +3.5.
Blackpool have played 2 away games in their last 6, and have scored 3 goals - +3/2 (+1.5). They have had 1 goal scored against them - ½ (+0.5). +1.5 - +0.5 = +1.
Thus there is a difference between the two goal differences of +2.5 in Burnley’s favour. Fairly large.
