The City Of Southampton has a rich cultural heritage. It is possible to trace its evolution from the first Roman settlement to the present day.
Southampton's Story is well represented in its museums and archives. Its buildings, a few of which date from the mediaeval period reflect the significance of Southampton through the ages.
The City Art Gallery is one of the United Kingdoms premier provincial galleries, known especially for its fine collection of 20th century works.
The Friends of Southampton's Museums, Archives and Galleries (FOSMAG) support, assist and promote the work of our galleries and museums which house important collections of paintings, sculpture, documents and artefacts.
We welcome new members either as participating partners in the volunteer teams or purely as interested observers of Southampton's heritage. Join today by contacting the Membership Secretary (see below) or by joining on the day at one of our events.
Events are organised and funds raised to help in extending the collections and improving access to our civic heritage. Our team of volunteers work with professional staff in a number of areas and individual Friends give their time and expertise in specialised fields.
Membership will enable you to receive our newsletters and events listings giving details of talks, previews, exhibitions, behind the scenes visits and outings to museums, galleries and archives in the region. For last minute events, arrangements and general chit-chat there is also the Fosmag Forum on this web site.
