Herbal Remedies

Below are listed some possible herbal remedies to deal with your disorder. Consult your physician before trying any of these~even if you're not taking any medication right now.

5~HTP:

This substance already in our body is made from tryptophan. 5~HT is the symbol for serotonin and your body naturally converts 5~HTP into 5~HT or Serotonin. 5~HTP is extracted from the Griffonia seed from a shrub in Africa. This supplement will boost your serotonin level and is used for depression, insomnia, migraines, and weight loss. Tests have proven 5~HTP to be as effective as Prozac and Zoloft against depression.

Kava Kava:

This is known as the herbal Valium from the Pacific Islands. This root can relieve stress, anxiety, help you relax, increase sociability, enhance awareness, and stamina.

NEVER MIX KAVA KAVA WITH XANAX!

This combination results in an instant coma. Kava kava is known for its mild narcotic properties. Kava can also cause drowsiness-so I strongly suggest you ask your doctor about this supplement before taking it.

St. John's Wort:

This supplement takes time to come into effect. Most people have labelled this as a miracle drug. But like many other prescriptions, it can take up to six weeks to take effect in your body. This is used to treat mild depression and anxiety without the side effects of addiction to the supplement. The dosages vary from company to company-so make sure that you're getting your money's worth BEFORE buying this product. It should be a .3% or greater if you want this to make any lasting effect on your disorder.

SAM~e:

This is an herbal anti-depressant. It is known as S-adenosylmethionine and occurs natrually in all living things. Unlike St. John's Wort, tests have shown that SAM-e can be effective against severe depression. This supplement isn't recommended for BiPolar disoder-as it could heighten the manic stage. This supplement is as effective as Prozac, only with fewer side effects. It is also effective for osteoarthritis pain by promoting joint health.

Other Supplements: Taking these along with the above will also enhance their effects.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids:

Scientists have discovered that our synapses (junctions) in our nervous system that transmit seratonin through our body are made from Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Omega 3's are available in many different supplements such as fish oil, flax seed oil and cod liver oil.

Vitamin B Complex :

This complex works with most of the bodies vital systems. It is essential for a healthy nervous system, muscles, combats pain, helps keep you clear headed, helps maintain the health of mucous membranes and skin, helps blood circulation, and the functioning of the adrenal glands. (just to name a few things.)

Vitamin B12:

The B vitamins are also great for regulating the flow of all your neurotranmitters. This is necessary for the correct functioning of folic and nucleic acids, helps maintain the nerve fibres of red blood cells, helps you maintain the movement of your body and helps with forgetfullness.

Magnesium:

Is required for the maintenance of bones and teeth, the functioning of the nerves and muscles, and your metabolism. It also aids Vitamins B1 and B12. Magnesium is found in many foods including green vegetables, cereals, grains, meat, and dairy products.

Potassium:

This is vital to cell and tissue fluids and essential for nerve function. People with a low Potassium intake are more likely to have high sodium levels or hypertension. Most people can get enough potassium in their diet just from eating various fruits and vegetables.

You can take any of these supplements-WITH the advice of your doctor. Some patients shouldn't take Potassium supplements if they have heart disease. Again, consult your physician before making any radical changes in your diet.

Supplements all work better if you eat fresh fruits and vegetables~since supplements are just synthetic versions of Natural Vitamins.
