Hippodrome Bristol. The only other decent sized venue in Bristol is the Hippodrome Theater. But be warned if you get a seat on the secound balcony don't sit down for too long.The seats are a chiropractors dream come true and your backs worst nightmare. In 1982 Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow came to town, ticket sales were brisk to say the least, I got down to the ticket office an hour after it opened and got one of the twenty tickets left! After all Ritchie Fxxking Blackmore in Bristol, wow! Armed with a 300mm lens with a 2x teleconvertor in one pocket and the camera body and film scattered elsewhere amongst my personal effects I climbed into the gods and got a good clear view of the stage.You could feel the audiences' anticipation. Sadly we were treated to a show of outstanding mediocarity.It was as though they were painting by numbers and really didn't want to be there.After twenty minutes we felt the same but dammit when were we ever likely to see Ritchie Blackmore in Bristol again? Well it's 2001 and were still waiting! Though given what he's doing these days that's fine. I think even they knew it was a crap show as they didn't bother with encores and legged it out the area sharpish Still never mind eh Ritchie?
