London 1979

Back in 1979 as a 17yo drop out and over the next four years between 1979-1983 I combined two of the things I was good at and found myself, sometimes in an official capacity, armed with a camera at lots of rock concerts in and around London, Aylesbury and Bristol pissing off the stewerds and sometimes the stars and being deeply offensive to anyone who got in my way (the other thing I was good at!) recording was then referred to as the new wave of heavy metal.

Then in 1984 I settled down, relatively, Over the next 17 years I got "real" jobs in photography working for all sorts of companies and organisations being a drone

Following a recent bout of domestic upheavels I moved for the umpteeth time and discovered a long forgotten box of photos from those halycon days of my youth.

As this was inside a box of albums and cassettes from the same time. I have been rediscovering my penchant for arsekicking rock and roll and annoying the shit out the people next door in the process(YES!!)

I present to you here and over the next few pages a glimpse back at the hairy, denim cutoff over leather jacket wearing, years of rock in that period shortly before live music died in this country to be replaced with prepackaged teenybop shite and that godawful rap bollox.

Maybe we were at the same gig(s). Hopefully you weren't one of the ones I got deeply offensive with in my attempts to capture these images, if you are however you may remember some spotty git with a couple of cameras round his neck shouting in your face "get out the fucking way you ignorant cxxt!!!"

Enjoy the memories that these pix might invoke, we were younger, leaner and had NO IDEA that Thatcher was to be in power as long as she was, that the miners would lose so badly, that Britian would just roll over and die in the face of the poll tax and yuppies, and that future governments would only communicate to us via spin doctors and ad agencies.Nor that one day in the then not too distant future the strangest thing ever to happen in the annuals of rock would occur.Ian Gillan would join Black Sabbath. What were they thinking!
