Virus de Prebois, Pyrenean type

Braque Français is an ancient pointing dog breed. "French Pointer" or "French Pointing Dog" are literal translations of the French Braque Français [brahk fransè]. This gun dog breed is not to be confused with other French breeds like the Braque de l'Ariege, the Braque du Bourbonnais or the Braque d'Auvergne. In the UK and in the USA the Braque Français is rarely seen, although it is are gaining in popularity among sportsmen, especially in Quebec. Braque Français should never be confused with the British Pointer, which can be considered an heir of its older french cousin.
Its origins date back to the Middle Ages and after a decline it is is again a healthy and very effective breed. At the beginning of the XVIII century the ancestors to todays Braque Français were imported by english soldiers from the Pirenean region. Back in England they were used to create the base of another good breed: the English Pointer. The Braque Français has exceptional hunting qualities and its  intelligence and sensitivity make it extremely easy to train and to own as a pet.
There are two different sizes of Braque Français, one small and a bigger one: the small Pirenean type (17-25kg), and the large Gascogne type (25-32kg).
It is a resilient breed that adapts very well to the family life because of its kind character and its eagerness to please its master.
