Do everyone you love a favour, make a
will. It saves arguments over goods and property and it really
smoothes the settlement of the estate with the Probate
Office.
In fact, get everyone you know to make a
will! - buy a will form, available from many good stationers and do it
yourself too!
If you can, get good life insurance
cover now, before your health bars you!.
Think seriously about a pre-need or
pre-arranged funeral plan - make certain you inform your executors that
you have such a plan and the whereabouts of the relevant paperwork.
Prepaid plans are available from most funeral homes - a good reason to
visit now and see if you like them! - and a variety of companies. Look for
a logo that indicates the plan provider is part of an association which
will give protection and assurances that your investment is safe.
You can visit your local funeral
directors and discuss your own arrangements with them if you wish and you
should be able to give fairly specific instructions too, just don't get
too involved and dragged into actually paying for anything!
If you want specific options for your
own or a friends funeral, then write it all down while you still
can. Let everyone know what you've done. There is nothing
morbid about doing this, in fact it can be a tremendous help to those you
leave behind and it's a wonderful opportunity to dictate your truly, last
wishes.
By the way, there's nothing in law that
requires anybody to follow these last instructions so perhaps you should
make them a qualifier in that will you were going to prepare....
Leave a copy of your instructions with
your will - guaranteed to be found!
