Breed Profile

Coat Length: Shorthair

Temperament: Affectionate, playful, sweet natured, inquisitive, dislikes loud noises

Coat: Short thick silky fur with no undercoat, the coat will part or break as the cat moves (especially over the spine)

Colours: Solid silver-blue - each hair is tipped with silver giving a halo effect

Head: Heart shaped head with short nose, pronounced muzzle, large round prominent green or amber-green eyes, large ears set high on the head and rounded at the tips, strong well developed chin

Body: Stocky muscular body with medium length tail that ends in a point, broad chest, curved back, small oval paws, slender medium length legs in proportion with the body, forelimbs are shorter than the hindlimbs, pinkish lavender paw pads

Grooming: Daily hand grooming, regular combing will remove dead hair, wiping the coat with a damp chamois or silk cloth will make it shine

Common Faults: Kinked tail

Disease Predispositions

GM1 Gangliosidosis [1,2,3]
- inherited lipid storage disorder characterized by progressive neuromuscular dysfunction and impaired growth from an early age. GM1 gangliosidosis is due to a defect in the B-galactosidase enzyme resulting in accumulation of galactoside GM1
- autosomal recessive inheritance

GM2 Gangliosidosis [1,3]
- inherited lipid storage disorder characterized by progressive neuromuscular dysfunction and impaired growth from an early age. GM2 gangliosidosis is due to a defect in the hexosaminidase A and B enzymes resulting in accumulation of galactoside GM2
