Abhumans are often despised by members of the Inquisition as mutated scum that like the foul taint of Chaos needs to be purged with sword and flame, though not many Inquisitors can dispute the fact that Ratlings are among the best shots in the known universe and that their skills often rival those of the Officio Assassinorum. There are only two real things one can rely on when dealing with these stunted child sized beings, one they will steal anything that isn't tied down (or even is in some cases) and gorge twice their weight in rations everyday, and two they can be relied on for their marksmanship when times get tough. Not all members of the Inquisition like to use these Abhuman creatures as they tend to be dishonest or in some cases have a tendency to sneak off at the first sign of a fight. Some however do employ Ratlings for both their sharp eyes and excellent marksmanship and also for the fact that they are extremely good at blending in with a crowd, ideal when you wish to gather information discreetly.

Ratling Sharpshooter Characters

Equipment: Ratling Sharpshooters are almost compulsive when it comes to hoarding things and there pockets are often filled with various items that they happened to have found lying around (ie in someone's pocket) or are useless to anyone else but themselves. The one thing that Ratling Sharpshooters do have however is their Sharpshooter Rifles, which they tend to name after a loved (or coveted) female. Most Ratling Sharpshooters wear flak armour vests and often wear peaked caps (no armour protection) and some may be equipped with a sight for their rifle.

Special Abilities: Ratling Sharpshooter characters all have the special abilities, Dead Eye Shot, Sneak (see below), Trick Shot (see below)

Sneak: Ratlings are very small sized creatures only averaging the height of a human child when fully grown. As a result they are ideal at sneaking around places, infiltration and even hiding in plain sight. Most people look down on Ratlings as second rate creatures at best and they often get ignored in busy Hives and space ports. Any Ratling wishing to Sneak gets a +30 bonus on their Initiative to hide or infiltrate and they are such masters at sneaking that they can even pass un-noticed in plain sight.

Trick Shot: Ratlings who are drafted into the service of the Imperial Guard often compete against guardsmen for food by shooting coins, bottles or other small objects from mid-air or from great distances. Trick shot allows the Ratling to shoot at a target that is partially hidden by bouncing the shot off a wall or ricocheting it from behind the target. As a result targets that are prone or behind cover get their save modified (at the GMs discretion) taking into account cover, scenery, etc.

Shamus Footfall Ratling Sharpshooter

Shamus Footfall was attached to the Cadian XXIV Rifles as a Sharpshooter during the third Armageddon campaign. While he was setting up an ambush with the other Ratlings attached to his unit, a squad of Chaos Marines blew up the building in which the Ratlings where setting up their ambush. The rest of his unit was killed but the lone Ratling overcome by fear and anger was responsible for the death of over 20 members of the Thousand Sons before he was reunited with the Cadian XXIV Rifles. Despite the fact that he had taken out two full squads of Chaos Marines alone his commander decreed him to be a traitor for failing to report back in when the building collapsed and he was due to be executed when Inquisitor Janise stepped in and used her influence to rescue the young Ratling who has been in her employ ever since.

Shamus Footfall is right-handed.
