'Match Game' frequently asked questions...
and not-so-rotten answers

A. Where can I write to my favorite regular?

I've been given addresses for each of the three regular panelists, but since I could easily plot them on an online map service, I've decided not to publish them (nor will I give them out via e-mail) in respect for their privacy. I will continue to look for suitable P.O. Boxes or forwarding services.

B. I need some 'Match Game' questions for a party/etc. Where can I get them?

Game Show Network shows at least three Rayburn-era MG episodes each day; transcribing shouldn't be too hard. You could also grab a board game...which leads us to our next question...

C. Is there a 'Match Game' board game?

Yes, several were made for the '60s show, and several more for the '70s version, all by Milton-Bradley. They're not especially easy to find, but check thrift shops and flea markets, not to mention ebay.com. (The playability of the '70s version - which I had - is nowhere near as fun as the show. It's still a neat keepsake to have, however. If you see one, get it. I have not played a '60s version game, so I have no opinion to share.)

D. Which cast members are still with us as of June 10, 2007?

Richard Dawson, Brett Somers and Betty White are alive. So are Fannie Flagg, Joyce Bulifant, Dick Martin, Patti Deutsch, Gary Burghoff, and tons of others. Nipsey Russell,. MacLean Stevenson, Gail Fisher, Mary Wickes, David Doyle, Bert Convy, Bobby Van, Foster Brooks and Debralee Scott have passed away, as  have Charles Nelson Reilly, announcer Johnny Olsen, and Gene Rayburn.

E. I/My friend/A relative was on Match Game. Can you help me get that episode?

In a word, no. I don't have the ability to search every Game Show Network broadcast for specific contestants. The Network is available on growing numbers of cable systems and most satellite providers. GSN airs the '70s daytime and nighttime shows. Only three epsidoes of the original '60s show are known to exist in trading circles, with at least six more resting in various TV museums. The MG/HS Hour exists, but is not airing on GSN because King World now owns the rights to Hollywood Squares. The '90 version occasionally airs on GSN.

F. Where can I get my hands on the Match Game theme?

The '70s theme, along with a portion of the famous Think Music, is available on Varese Sarabande Records' "Classic TV Game Show Themes" CD, copyright 1997. Your local music store should be able to order it. The theme to the '60s version is Bert Kaempfert's "A Swingin' Safari", available on various discs, and is also included on "The Best of TV Quiz & Game Show Themes" - which is the follow-up to the earlier disc. The '83 and '90 shows' theme songs are available on The '80s TV Theme Supersite.

I hope this helps answer your questions. As for any behind-the-scenes gossip... I'm not the person to ask, and I couldn't tell you who is. :)
