COUNTDOWN
UNTIL THE SHRMPERS ARE BACK ON TOUR
Gayton Cricket Club, “The
Mighty Shrimpers”, founded in 1891 is a traditional village cricket club. Until
the mid 1980's the club was content to play weekend friendly fixtures. This all
changed when the club entered the South Northants
Cricket League.
After years of bouncing between the first and second
divisions a successful second half in 2006 meant we finished a respectable
fourth in Division Two, set-up nicely for a promotion run in 2007.
Unfortunately due to administrative oversights the league, in their infinite
wisdom, decided to relegate the now meek Shrimpers to Division Five for 2007.
Not surprisingly the Shrimpers stormed to the
Division Five title, unbeaten in the league and also reached the final of the Wardington Cup (only to lose on the final ball of the
game). Successful negotiation at the AGM in November 2007 led to the Shrimpers being bumped back up the league. We will be
playing in Division Two in 2008.

The club returned to the village in 1997 after
spending some years enduring a nomadic lifestyle. We were able to re-establish
a ground in the village including a new pavilion mainly due to a grant from The
Foundation for Sports and the Arts but also through the generosity of our
President, Mr. Martin Church, and our landlord, Mr. Jim Byrom.
The building was officially opened in August 2000 though fund raising ventures
will continue with further ground development required.
