COUNTDOWN UNTIL THE SHRIMPERS ARE BACK ON TOUR

Latest News

September 19th – 21st 2008 – Magical Mystery Tour, Shrimpers on tour. I can exclusively reveal we are not touring Georgia, hotels were cancelled, bombed out.

September 2008Jacko’s end of season BBQ, though no-one seems to know what date it is!

August 27th 2008 – New poll, same as (similar anyway) the old poll.

August 25th 2008 – Shrimpers win one at last and move back up to third in the New England Financial Services Division Two. A victory in the final match against already relegated Gawcott & Hillesden (lets hope they send just one team) and a defeat with less than five bonus points for Wardington means we will be promoted. Not sure what happens if points are tied!

August 21st 2008 – Small update to the site, Gallah has supplied a short report and the stats for the Warwick University ‘A’ game on the 9th.

August 18th 2008 – Since no current Shrimper seems all that bothered about this seasons stats I have dug out more form the pre-Shrimper past. Look now on the archive page to see the stats from 1997 (the year we returned to the village and were more dreadful than now) and 1998 when we looked better against weaker opposition. Gallah scored a boatful of runs and took wickets to. Sadly, of course, he remembers this time and still considers himself a bowler because of it.

There are also some tantalizing glimpses of the 2000 season when some current Shrimper names began appearing on the scorebooks. Does anyone know the locations of the scorebooks for the period 1999-2001. It would be nice to fill in the gaps.

August 17th 2008 – Shrimpers slump to another defeat, this time against leaders and now champions, Hinton-in-the-Hedges. We need to win the last two games and hope results go wildly in our favour to have any chance of promotion now. The league apparently need to award us bonus points from last weeks defeat but it seems no-one has been informed of the result and scores of that match, except it was a defeat for the Shrimpers. Any Shrimpers out there interested in what is happening? If so get the info sent over to the League and Shrimper HQ so the rest of us can see as well!

August 9th 2008 – A new Shrimper Poll and possibly one of the most important you could ever vote in, especially if you are touring this year. Think long and hard before you vote, the decision could change your Shrimper life.

August 8th 2008 – As promised statistics are now available for the 1995 and 1996 seasons. Access them through the archive page and try not to be too shocked by how bad Gayton CC was in those pre-Shrimper days.

July 30th 2008 – A new Shrimper Poll courtesy of our esteemed SOB, and it is a classic!

July 27th 2008 – Divisional Cup Final against Greens Norton at Byfield CC. Another defeat for our less than Mighty Shrimpers in July. Beaten comprehensively by 8 wickets, a poor run out decision, a couple of missed catches and a ringer. Lucky we are not bitter.

July 26th 2008 – Another Shrimper league defeat and now we find our selves outside the promotion places in the New England Financial Services Division Two.

July 20th 2008 – Shrimpers have their first 2-game losing streak of the season losing what looks like a close one to fellow promotion contenders Croughton. With Hinton well clear now at the top of the New England Financial Services Division Two it is looking like the second promotion spot may not be decided until the very end of the season.

July 16th 2008 – After racking our brains at Shrimper HQ we have finally come up with a new Shrimper Poll. A lot more interesting than the best batsman poll I am sure you will agree!

July 12th 2008 – Have you paid your Tour deposit yet? It must be paid by today.

July 9th 2008 – A slightly delayed match report from Saturdays league fame at Sibford, but it has been well worth waiting for. A new trend perhaps? Themed match reports anyone?

July 7th 2008 – Lots of catching up to do. New results from the Divisional Cup semi-final, a league win at the weekend and a new Shrimper Poll. It’s all go at Shrimper HQ.

June 29th 2008 – Shrimpers are back to winning ways with a big score against Gawcott & Hillesden (yes we beat two teams in one go). Massive performances from much of the Fun Boy Four, John Bobs and Schnorbs.

June 25th 2008 - Walt Newcombe died last week and the funeral is at Gayton Church on Friday this week at 11.30am. Cameron will be attending and any other Gayton cricketers will be very welcome. Walt came and watched us for many years and was part of a small band of brothers who got the club going again after WW2. Neil Bobsin actually played cricket with him many years ago. We intend to do something to remember Walt, for the family and for the club.

June 21st 2008 – Welcome to summer. On the longest day of the year, often called the first day of summer, the Shrimpers game at Greens Norton was rained off.

June 20th 2008 – After last seasons heroics in the Wardington Cup all eyes were on Wootton where a rain delayed game eventually got completed. Sadly no more heroics as the Shrimpers fell to local rivals Wootton.

June 19th 2008 – Bang on time two weeks later Mad Dog has presented his first match report. Is it a cracker or a dud? You decide.

June 18th 2008 – Shrimper Poll update, not bad choices by Shrimper voters, we got 6 of 8 quarter-finalists correct, only Sweden got votes and are out, Russia and Turkey received no votes but have reached the last eight.

June 15th 2008 – The magnificent run of league victories is over. The top of the table clash with Hinton resulted is an eight wicket defeat for our valiant Shrimpers.

June 12th 2008 - Shrimpers beat Hinton by 30 runs in the Divisional Cup, a small boost before the showdown this Saturday.

June 10th 2008 – A new and topical poll. Keep voting until the end of the group stages.

June 8th 2008 – Not really latest news, more like old news . . Shrimpers win again to remain top of the New England Financial Services Division Two. So Shrimper fans across the world the date for you diary is Saturday June 14th at the Poplars, top of the table clash against Hinton-in-the-Hedges. Will see you all there!

June 3rd 2008 – To update Sean’s comment in the match report the Lloyydmeister has been investigating recent Shrimper history and in a flurry of emails mentioning Lilac shirts, Winstons movements and the size of some sort of appendage (I don’t think they are linked) the following quote was spoken (in words on a screen):

“As a burgeoning stat webnerd I can report that Gayton must be in their most rudest purple patch since records began.

We have won our last 20 matches! And since July 8th 2006 we have won 26 out of 27 matches!

In nearly 2 years we have only lost one game!

My comment about winning 23 didn’t take into account the 3 rained of games in 2007.

We (well you) will soon be talked about in the same breathe as the 1948 Aussie test side, Liverpool of the early 80s and Red Rum………..”

So on that note check out the latest Shrimper Poll, come on gentlemen, be honest!

June 1st 2008 Flamin’ June and Shrimpers are still Mighty with an easy looking (but actually not) win over basement boys Evenley ‘A’. Standout performances from Betty with the bat and Ledge with the ball.

May 26th 2008 – The threat succeeded, Gallah knows how much money and sponsorship means to him and passed on the stats for the Sibford game, so now you can look up your averages for the season so far. But bless our little Aussie b’stard, he came up with a good new poll idea so start voting now. If you don’t know who David Miles is ask Gallah!

May 25th 2008 – Shrimpers remain top of New England Financial Services Division Two with another win, this time against our old mates from Hanslope. Read Seanny’s match report now. I will post the stats when I get the full list from the Sibford game (eh Gallah? If I don’t see them soon you might find a lot less mentions of our division sponsor!!!)

May 25th 2008 - ## UPDATE ## SOB has supplied us with a fuller match report from the cup match.

May 22nd 2008 – Shrimpers breeze through the first round of the Divisional Cup. Gallahs match report on the message board goes something like: “Gayton 165 - 4 (Pete 27, Lordy 20, J Robinson 87*) beat Gawcott 82 - 5 (J Bobsin 20-2, N Bobsin 5-1 off 5 overs, 2 runouts) by 83 runs. Seany, Trusler, Toby and Gallah all watching from the sidelines trying to work out how to get back into the side.”

May 17th 2008 – Shrimpers keep rolling on, even with a much changed side the Shrimpers win again to be joint top (with Hinton-in-the-Hedges) of the New England Financial Services Division Two, and what a well sponsored Division it is!!

May 10th 2008 – Shrimpers are off to another flyer, played two, won two after an 18 run win at Wardington. Look out for a classic Sean O’Shrimper match report soon.

May 6th 2008 – I know it has been a while but at last a new Shrimper poll. Almost topical as well!

May 3rd 2008 – Shrimpers are Go! with a crushing victory over Sibford. The Ledge takes his first 5fer of the season, contributions with the bat from MTS, Betty and the boy JohnBobs.

March 17th 2008 – Get yer kit out!! First indoor nets, usual place from 8 – 9pm. Cost £4 per person

March 5th 2008 – Another new Shrimper Poll. Take into account the facilities at the oppo ground as well as after game ‘entertainment’ ie the pub!

March 3rd 2008 – At last the new season fixtures are online. Check them out now, plan your summer hols and try and recall the pubs at these ‘new’ away fixtures.

February 18th 2008 – Annual General Meeting, 7.30pm at The Yeoman, Wootton.

January 8th 2008 – A happy New Year to all Shrimper fans. Not a lot going on this time of year but I have generated a new poll, though not a very novel one.
