Large
new detached houses guarding the entrance to the historic town of Usk. Click
here to view the map. Click on the right place on the map to return to
this page. Usk town is geographically advantaged
by being proximate to south Monmouthshire and
has reasonable accessibility from the west
but excellent access on its east side to the
A449 dual carriageway to Newport together with scenic
beauty and historic value. |
| Usk may grow if planners
give it permission. Further north the settlements are tiny but the access
has led to some economic developments like the Alice
Springs golf course and conference centre (photo). Considerable
numbers of cars are parked there mid morning on a working week day. |

The golf course
serves the 'young retired' in mid week. The signs
advertise a restaurant and a function room. This development
has occurred in the last 10 years. Former agricultural
land has been given over to tourism and
leisure. The site is favouired by its proximity to Pontypool /Cwmbran
urban populations and rapid road access from Newport. |
| Adjacent
to the golf course is a craft and arts centre again in former
agricultural buildings. |
