G G Baker & Associates This partnership was formed in 1968 to provide impartial advice to those planning document storage and retrieval systems and to assist companies in difficulty with existing installations. Contracts have since been undertaken for many hundreds of major users throughout the world. In 1970 a publishing programme commenced with a series of Guides to equipment and services available in the UK. These books soon became the prime reference works used throughout the industry and their production continued until 2001 when all of their content was made freely available on our technical website at www.ggbaker.com. Gerald Baker, our Senior Partner, left the UK in 1986 to live in semi-retirement in the Ballearic Islands, taking advantage of modern communication techniques to edit our publications from offices overlooking the coast of Majorca. In 1995 the partnership expanded its publishing programme into the consumer market with Enjoying Majorca by Pamela Legge, later followed by The Expatriate Siamese by the same author. These books have attracted much favourable comment, some of which is reproduced in the reviews included on this site. Sales and marketing operations remain in the UK. Our books are still available at full price via the book trade but now that they are a little dated we also offer them at substantial discount for prepaid orders sent directly to our Chedworth address. Enjoying Majorca remains one of the best guides to the island as well as an entertaining account of expatriate life on Majorca. The descriptions of the towns and villages are still accurate but a few of the restaurants mentioned have changed hands since it was published and a small number are no longer trading. It still offers exceptional value at its discounted price and remains unique in its approach. Used in combination with a good map it will lead the visitor to many interesting places usually omitted from the tourist guides. The Expatriate Siamese is a classic story which is not affected by the fact that it was published in 2000. It will appeal to all cat lovers and makes an ideal present as it suitable for all age groups. |
