| Saturday 23 October 2004 West of Scotland Cup (Round 2) Rhu AFC 2-v-5 Glasgow Harp AFC Harp progressed to the 3rd round of the West Cup with a hard fought and well earned victory. They played the game with several players missing but still came out on top. They took the lead after 10 minutes, the keeper spilling a Buchanan cross was knocked in by Gary Grantham. Rhu equalised 5 minutes later, a good pass split the Harp defence and was drilled home by the No9. Harp went ahead with a penalty from Stevie Buchanan after Peter Johnstone was fouled in the box. Goal no3 came from Willie McBride just before half time, an excellent strike from 25 yards. The second half started with Harp on the back foot. Rhu pulled a goal back when McGovern fouled a Rhu midfielder. They tried in vain to get an equaliser, but it was Harp who scored next. A fine pass from Thomas Bennett sent Martin Johnstone on goal and he finished expertly, clipping the ball over the advancing keeper. Peter Johnstone finished off the 5th goal 10 minutes from time to send Harp into the next round. Overall, a good win and a safe passage through to the next rounds of both National cups. Next week a home league game versus Netherton. |
