The 110th Eastern Counties League East Coast Derby ended all square in a topsy turvy encounter at Emerald Park.
Gorleston took the lead in the first minute when a Gary Ingram crossfield pass found Matt Bowles in space. Yarmouth keeper Elliot Pride appeared to slip, allowing Bowles to lift the ball over him and into the net. Peter Lambert could have increased the lead in the 13th minute when he weaved his way through the defence but slotted his effort wide of the far post. One minute later Yarmouth equalised when a shot was parried out by Greens keeper Tom Marsden but fell nicely at the feet of Adam Sewell to prod home. Midway through the half Gorleston looked certain to go back ahead when the ball fell to Gary Todd three yards out. His effort and two follow ups were somehow miraculously saved on the line by keeper Pride although to some Todd's second effort appeared to be a yard over the line. After half an hour did Gorleston regain the lead. A Kyle Howell long throw was headed on by Peter Lambert and flicked in by Todd from a yard out to make amends.
HALF TIME : GORLESTON 2 Gt YARMOUTH 1
Gorleston started the second half stronger without really causing the Yarmouth keeper any trouble, his biggest problem coming from a slightly wayward back header by Mott. With Gorleston appearing unable to increase their lead the worry for Greens fans was that Yarmouth would get back into the game and the Bloaters duly equalised for the second time after 70 minutes when another saved shot fell to the feet of Stewart Roach who made no mistake from ten yards. Gorleston responded well with a Jack Marsden free kick that drifted just wide but five minutes from time Yarmouth went ahead for the first time from a 25yard free kick which Steve Taylor curled superbly into the top corner. Again Gorleston responded with a Richie Fruin effort palmed onto the bar before Luke Goreham bulldozed his way through the Yarmouth defences to blast in an equaliser with just two minutes remaining. Gorleston still had time to put the ball in the net again before the final whistle but the referee spotted a push and ruled the effort out to make what was, in the end, a fair result.
