Training with Graeae Theatre Company

Through Graeae, some of the best known and talented theatre practitioners are offering training courses to disabled actors and theatre workers. Our programmes in the past have included work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Mike Leigh, London International Festival of Theatre, Trestle Theatre Company and Radio 4 Drama.

Graeae aims to provide, in its short course programme, high quality teaching and innovative training opportunities for disabled people in theatre, both for beginners and those with experience. We hope that you will find courses here that will interest and stimulate you and develop your skills.

Free performance training for aspiring actors with
sensory and physical disabilities

What is the Missing Piece?

• free performing arts training designed exclusively for adults with physical and sensory impairments
• from Graeae, the country’s leading company of disabled theatre professionals, Missing Piece is run in partnership with London Metropolitan University
• accredited at Access to Higher Education by the London Open College Network
• course units taught by a range of experienced arts professionals, disabled and non-disabled, and tutors from London Met.
• full access support provided according to individual needs
• wide-ranging and flexible course includes voice and movement, improvisation, non text-based performance, exploring text, solo performance and workshop skills
• showcase at a central London venue for theatre and casting directors, TV and radio producers and Higher Education representatives

When and where is it happening?

• The course runs from September 2005 until May 2006 over 4 days per week, term time
• All sessions take place at London Met University in North London
• Application forms available for 2005 course from ellie@graeae.org
• Successful applicants invited to audition

What should I hope to get out of it?

Missing Piece aims to increase access for disabled performers to:

• employment opportunities in the performing arts
• Higher Education, in both university and drama school settings, including Foundation Degrees and joining Performing Arts degree courses
