Welcome to the 'Greg Parke' website. Here you will learn about one of the most interesting men in Irish / UK Radio today. You may be surprised at what you see!! Born in Larne Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland, he was born to broadcast. At the grand Old age of 6, he fell in love with Radio as he drifted into sleep with his mother’s old transistor radio at his bedside. He wasn't long about getting on air though. He got himself into C.B. radio (the early 80's craze) and then some years later, Radio Ham. He didn't sit his exam in 1992 as it was called early while Greg was on holiday. After getting back and meeting up with some radio friends he was then distracted from that side of the industry to ours. But his love of music and Radio Stations never changed all along. It began on Christmas Day 1979 when 'Santa Claus' delivered his first hi-fi system. Without knowing, this was to be his secret educationist to this industry through his young life. Even back then in that big Old country house far from anyone, he would have to wait some years until he would earn a place in our industry. This didn't happen until he was 21 when he built a hobby station after a job became redundant. He went ahead with it, not knowing how Popular Energy Radio would become. The on air date was: 6pm, Saturday 1st Oct.1994. The station in Navan, Co Meath had eventually Recruited 12 On-Air presenters by early 1996. The station closed in Dec.1997 when Greg felt the need to expand so he left for Berlin, Germany. While there he played in various nightclubs, including the famous 'Metropool' one of the worlds Largest. After being introduced to Stephan Hensel at Berlins RTL 104.6fm Greg worked with American engineer James R. Huste at the station. In late 1998 Greg received a call from Kiss 106 in Ireland, offering him the breakfast show slot from 6 - 10am. After some negotiating Greg agreed to their offer and left Berlin home to Ireland. After some searching for a car, he was on the road for real success! In early January 2000 Greg heard about an On-Air presentation post at National / International UK station ATLANTIC 252. He sent a demo tape and received a call from John O' Hara (Station P.D.) with an offer to present weekend overnights in addition to swing work. Greg enjoyed some unforgettable days and nights with the UK station until June only to move on to Q102 in L'Derry city, Northern Ireland some months later. The move came at a good time as the Q-Network was expanding! Having presented just about ever show on all three stations Greg took over breakfast from 6 - 10am (GMT) from Monday to Friday to win an award less than one year later. His Sunday night 'Total 80's' show from 10pm to 1am (GMT) was broadcast across the network of stations (all over Northern Ireland) apart from the overnight show which was always networked. He no longer plays in clubs because (as he put it) 'I have done my time playing loud music and having to deal with drunken people'. These days you can hear Greg present Breakfast again on Q102 after leaving Q102 in March 2006 to become the Home Run presenter on 7fm in Ballymena and 'Head of Music Programming'. Greg is now 'Group Head of Music' for the Q-Radio Network of stations. Dear thanks go to my parents for their help in the early days. God bless you both x x. Enjoy your visit here.
