TUESDAY 17 APRIL 2001... A cold, wet and windy night in London and I don't want to be here (Gig or no gig!) But here I am and its not half bad. Tonight GRIEF SOCIETY play a four band bill at the Bull & Gate in London's Kentish Town. They're always tricky because you've got to get quite a lot into a half hour slot. The first band up is called Venis. Highly enjoyable!! Girl singer and a kind of indie-punk thing with the band and the girl singer can really sing! An amazing voice with a Tank Girl stage persona (Sorry but it's true!) and some kicking songs. I had a great time and was truly glad we weren't going on immediately after. Second band up was a band called Vellum (I think). It all went badly wrong for them. Earlier in the day the drummer had been knocked off his bike and to complete his day the drum kit started moving across the stage at strategic points during their set. Steve couldn't look but I was oddly fascinated. Stef and Don disappeared... The GRIEF Set was a blast!! The half hour flew by at breakneck speed and a thoroughly good time was had be all. Its always good to see people who don't know you become familiar with your sound and have a good time. I know at least a couple of people in the crowd will have gone and checked out the new album after this show.
