Malaysian Citizens Election Watch (PEMANTAU)
Malaysian Citizen Election Watch (PEMANTAU)

The Malaysian Citizens Election Watch (PEMANTAU ) was launched on June 26, 1999 by a coalition of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The PEMANTAU project is aimed at achieving the following broad objectives:

1.    To ensure an electoral process that is free from intimidation and irregularities which is important for good and democratic governance.

2.     To ensure that Malaysians can freely exercise their right to universal suffrage and with the confidence that the electoral process will accurately reflect their choice via free, fair and honest elections.

3.    To promote and facilitate the participation of citizen groups, social activists and the general public in the protection of principles and practice of democracy in our beloved Malaysia.

Currently, the PEMANTAU project is being carried out by eight registered non-governmental organisations (NGOs), either individually or severally, with the Pertubuhan Kebajikan BUDI Malaysia (BUDI) acting as the facilitating or coordinating NGO.
